Opportunity Description

Dayton Children’s Hospital, in partnership with Wright State University, and the Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine Department of Pediatrics seek their fifth Chair. The Chair of Pediatrics oversees the continuum of pediatric medical education and research activities at Boonshoft School of Medicine (BSOM) and Dayton Children’s while also serving as Vice President for Academic Affairs on the Dayton Children’s Hospital Senior Leadership Team and on the Hospital’s Board of Trustees. The Chair reports directly to the CEO of Dayton Children’s Hospital and works with the CMO to support faculty development and innovation for over 400 providers (including subspecialists and APP’s) at Dayton Children’s Hospital. 

Outstanding candidates for the position will partner with leadership of Dayton Children’s Hospital, Wright State University, Boonshoft School of Medicine, Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, and our community organizations to advance the missions and visions, and support the values and strategic priorities of our institutions in a culture that celebrates diversity and recognizes our charge to assure that we provide equitable and inclusive care for each other, for our staff, for our learners, and for the diverse patients and families that we serve.

To achieve that goal, successful candidates will have had an academic career in pediatrics and bring extensive leadership experience, including strategic thinking, administrative oversight, and management skills. Demonstrated leadership at a national, regional, and local level is expected. A commitment to fostering professional development within the Department, including mentorship and sponsorship, will be essential.

Candidates’ academic career may have a focus in any of several areas, including medical education, population health, health policy and advocacy, quality improvement science, implementation science, health services research, health outcomes research, community engaged research, and/or clinical or translational research.

REQUIRED PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:

Required Education/Certifications/Licensure
  • MD/DO degree
  • Ohio medical license or eligibility for Ohio medical license
  • Current board certification by the American Board of Pediatrics
  • Qualified for faculty appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or higher.
Required Professional Qualifications/Experience
  • Leadership experience as a chair, vice chair, program director, division chief, or director in an academic pediatric setting
  • Current experience as an actively practicing pediatrician in an academic medical center.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in business administration, healthcare administration, public administration, medical management, or equivalent degree
  • Qualified for faculty appointment at the rank of Professor
  • A distinguished record of clinical care, teaching, and scholarship with national stature
  • Experience in leading educational programs
  • Track record of leading a diverse body of faculty, staff, and learners
  • Demonstrated fiscal responsibility
  • Collaborative leadership skills and ability to relate well within the department and the community
  • Experience in recruiting, retaining, mentoring, and developing highly qualified faculty, staff, and residents
  • Experience in or a willingness to learn philanthropy pertinent to an academic department.
