YouTube Might Have a Negative Effect on Recruitment

youtubeVideos have become a widely used tool in most recruitment campaigns. Compared to a general text job description, a video can attract more potential candidates. On an average, a video is about one minute or two, and effectively conveys the message, shedding a positive light on your company.

A recent research indicates that YouTube is the most widely used platform for implementing video strategies. Easy to understand, simple to use, and extremely effective.

Though YouTube is very popular and is used by the biggest enterprises, the research sees YouTube in a negative light. According to the analyses, YouTube is actually damaging the recruitment efforts of a company instead of making the job easier.

So before you upload that next video on YouTube, here are some things that you should be aware of.

Low Click – Through Rates

Surprising as it may seem, instead of improving the traffic to your careers page, YouTube can actually decrease the number of clicks. The report estimates that your channel may have over 13,000 views, but there will only be about 200 clicks to the Career pages on your company’s website. In this case, the click – through rate will just be about 1.5%.

This is a huge concern. If you delve deeper, you would realize that of all the people who view your videos, only 1.4% actually make it to your website, and apply. This is a really low rate.

Distractions

You love YouTube, right? But so do the candidates out there. When you surf the site, are you not attracted to the plethora of videos that are featured there? Expect the same of other people. Instead of looking at your recruitment video, there is a high chance that the person may get distracted, and start viewing another video. Perhaps this is why YouTube results in such a low click through rate.

SEO Efforts

YouTube has the power to literally nullify your SEO efforts. You should already be aware of how the topmost candidates run job searches. If your YouTube channel is being displayed on the web page, you yourself are leading them to a path where the click rates are very low.

The above mentioned results do not imply that you should stop using YouTube altogether. You should use it in such a manner that you actually gain advantages instead of having to face the downsides.
