Healthcare Division Leader Brad Ellis Featured In Hospital Compliance Watch

Brad Ellis, Partner, Healthcare Division Leader of Kaye/Bassman International Corporation is featured in December issue of Hospital Compliance Watch.  He comments on how career success may depend on nursing degree, and advanced certifications.

Success and career growth as a compliance officer may require a nursing degree from now on, says Brad Ellis, a partner and health care division leader with Kaye/Bassman International Corp., an executive recruiting and placement firm based in Dallas. Hospitals increasingly are demanding that compliance officers have a strong nursing background, and those without may be pushed out of their jobs within a few years, he says.

Hospitals also are looking for candidates who have advanced certifications, he says. Ellis previously worked in health care at HCA, the large health system based in Nashville, TN. He regularly places compliance officers in hospitals, and he says employers have become demanding and quite specific when it comes to what they want in a compliance officer.

“When I was a therapist in a hospital, I had friends who were directors of laboratory or therapy or other areas and had gone into compliance. All of those type of people are being eliminated,” Ellis says. “Anyone dealing directly, hands-on, with quality, risk, or compliance in a hospital is going to have to come from a clinical nursing background and be an RN.”
