Dallas, Texas - 11/12/2011:

What does it take to become a leader of case managers in 2011? Nursing and social work skills in depth, a knack for finance and systems, interpersonal skills, and a rare combination of sensitivity to patient needs and the thick skin sometimes required to advocate for the protection of those patients. And, now more than ever, managers of case managers must possess a finely honed ability to balance the ethical imperative to provide top-quality care with the financial imperatives of hospitals undergoing rapid change.
Given the financial strains wrought by macroeconomic malaise and health-care reform, there’s no way around it: To move up in a hospital case-management department, “a clinical case manager needs to understand business aspects of delivering services,” says Cheri Lattimer, RN, BSN, executive director of the Case Management Society of America.
Still, leaders in case management must remain deeply involved in their clinical calling. “Hospital executives don’t want someone who will sit at her desk all day,” says John Fulcher, director of health-care recruiting for Bauer Consulting Group in El Paso, Texas. “One of my clients who’s a director of case management has to go on rounds every day.”
There is no certain path to promotion in a case-management department, but there are diverse possibilities. “There are a few different routes to management,” says Brad Ellis, health-care division leader for recruiter Kaye/Bassman International in Plano, Texas. “It can be long tenure and superior performance in case management, or becoming an expert in a particular health-care IT system, or certifications in different areas. But you need a nursing background; social work alone doesn’t cut it anymore.”

Jeff Kaye, Co-CEO of Kaye/Bassman International is Featured on "Social Sound with Shama" TV this week. Jeff tells the story of our charitable foundation and how together, we've raised $1 Million for local, county and national organizations.

About The Kaye/Bassman Foundation
The Kaye/Bassman Foundation is proud to announce that since inception in 2001, the Foundation has donated over one million dollars to their charitable beneficiaries!  The Kaye/Bassman Foundation is a not-for-profit organization created for one primary purpose and whose mission is: “To create and perpetuate an environment of charitable giving, to foster hope and personal growth, to support medical research, and to enhance the lives of people in need.”

Created in 2001 as a small grass-roots group of volunteers who saw unmet needs and an opportunity to make a difference, this organization is supported by Kaye/Bassman International, a recruiting and search firm based out of Dallas, Texas.  Events over the years have ranged from golf tournaments held at the exclusive Gleneagles Country Club, to lavish galas at venues such as the Four Seasons, to upscale celebrations at some of the hottest clubs in Dallas, including Teddy’s Room.

Primary beneficiaries over the past several years are the Muscular Dystrophy Association and City House.  Tracy Denton, Regional Director for MDA, shared that “the Muscular Dystrophy Association is proud of the long standing partnership we have shared with Kaye/Bassman International; Kaye/Bassman is a company comprised of hard working and dedicated individuals with big hearts!”  Funds to the MDA are specifically directed to Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. Eddie Hill’s son Tyus was diagnosed with Duchenne in 2001 when he was one year old; Eddie says “I feel blessed to have been able see what goes on behind the scenes at KBIC when it comes to fundraising and charity work.  The commitment, dedication, and passion of your leadership group has inspired a spirit of giving that extends far beyond the walls of your offices.  Thank you for everything your work has done for me, my family, and the many young men and boys with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy."

City House provides a number of resources for over 3,000 children and families in Collin County, Texas and the surrounding counties.  This year, the Foundation took on a third initiative to support the Baylor Cancer Program, and committed to raising at least $25,000 to provide an exam room dedicated to Cindy Ornish, a 19-year partner with Kaye/Bassman who passed away in 2010 after a long and courageous battle with breast cancer.

Jeff Kaye, CEO of Kaye/Bassman, shares that “Love and profit are NOT mutually exclusive concepts in the business world. It is a true blessing to be surrounded by a group of people that not only embrace that concept, but take action ON IT AND MAKE a difference in the lives of others in need.”  The Kaye/Bassman Foundation is proud to cross the million dollar mark, and appreciates all of the support of our sponsors, donors, friends and families who have helped us achieve that milestone!
