Cardiothoracic Radiologist Opportunity Description

UMass Memorial Medical Center (UMMMC), the clinical partner of the University of Massachusetts Medical School, is seeking an ABR-certified/eligible radiologist with fellowship training in Cardiovascular and/or Thoracic Radiology to join the nationally recognized Division of Cardiothoracic Imaging in the Department of Radiology.

UMASS RADIOLOGY:

The Department of Radiology performs over 900,000 studies per year, across five hospitals and an outpatient imaging center in central Massachusetts. Current faculty include 65 fellowship-trained radiologists, all practicing in organ or modality-based divisions, including a 24/7/365 Emergency Radiology Division. The department trains five (5) residents per year (20 total), and nine (9) fellows.

UMass Radiology offers the latest imaging technology: seven (7) MRIs, seven (7) CTs, including a Siemens Definition Flash CT and two (2) new Siemens 128 Definition Edge CTs. All UMass radiology sites are fully integrated into the same PACS system (AGFA) and enterprise-wide EPIC EMR. The integration of the EPIC lung screening module and a lung screening navigator are underway.

The cardiovascular and thoracic case volume currently includes approximately 500+ cardiac MRIs, 1,000 Cardiac CT/CTA examinations, 49,000 Chest X-Rays, and 9,000 Chest CTs per year – a level of experience that no other hospital in central Massachusetts can match.

UMass’ highly specialized cardiovascular and thoracic imagers work closely with multidisciplinary teams in the hospital, allowing for numerous opportunities for clinical and research collaboration within the fastest growing research institution in the United States.

QUALITY OF LIFE:

UMass Memorial Health is the largest health care system in central Massachusetts and consistently ranks in the Top 10 percent of the nation’s medical schools. In addition to our fully equipped medical centers, our system also includes home health and hospice programs, behavioral health programs, and community-based physician practices. Living in the heart of central MA offers easy access to all the lifestyle benefits of New England including Boston, Cape Cod, and numerous other surrounding recreational areas. Many faculty members live in or close to downtown Boston and enjoy a hassle-free “Reverse” commute to Worcester.

Professional Qualifications:

Reporting to the UMass Chief of Cardiothoracic Imaging, Dr. Alexander Bankier, the Cardiothoracic Radiologist will be responsible for providing the full range of diagnostic examinations, as well as providing consultation to referring physicians across the UMass Memorial system. S/he must possess:
