Chief Medical Executive Description
Harris Health System, a fully integrated public healthcare system located in Houston, Texas seeks a Chief Medical Executive (CME) to join their executive leadership team. Harris Health partners with two nationally recognized medical schools, Baylor College of Medicine and University of Texas Health Science Center (UT Health). The CME will work closely with medical leadership in designing and executing strategies and programs that foster strong alignment between the physicians, medical schools, and Harris Health. As Harris Health transforms the healthcare delivery platform to better meet the needs of the community, the CME will lead the efforts to create a unified and balanced organization that is positioned to innovatively and effectively meet the demands of our patient population.
Harris Health seeks candidates with strong experience in developing trusted medical staff relationships and the ability to provide solid clinical, strategic, and cultural leadership. Candidates should have at least ten (10) years of clinical experience and at least five (5) years of progressive experience in medical leadership roles in an academic, matrixed environment.
The Chief Medical Executive serves as a corporate physician liaison to the medical staff and is a senior administration team member. S/he is responsible for leading Harris Health’s strategic journey to be a high reliability organization, as well as system utilization and quality and regulatory requirements. S/he is comfortable operating in a highly-matrixed environment and has strong interpersonal relationship skills. This leader has experience with and a strong understanding of value-based purchasing. Analysis of quality and utilization analytics is required.
The Chief Medical Executive will report to the President and CEO of Harris Health.
- Master’s Degree – An advanced degree in Business Administration or Healthcare (MBA, MMM, MHA) preferred or must complete within four (4) years of hire date.
- Doctor of Medicine with current Texas medical license, DEA or DPS.
Licenses and Certifications
- Board Certification via ABMS preferred.
- Corporate Quality and Utilization with a matrixed reporting relationship to all clinical platforms.
Other Special Requirements
Must be able to demonstrate exceptional interpersonal skills and understanding of the interdepartmental roles. Must be able to demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills. Must be familiar with value-based purchasing, data compilation, and data analysis. Must be able to demonstrate patient centered/patient-valued behaviors. Knowledge of state, federal, and regulatory requirements, including CMS and DNV.
