Clinical Geneticist Position Description

The Department of Pediatrics at the University of Florida College of Medicine (UFCOM) – Jacksonville is seeking applications for a full-time Clinical Geneticist to join the Division of Pediatric Genetics

We are looking for a candidate who has experience and/or will have had specialized training in the area of metabolic genetics and is eager to lead the development of a Metabolic Genetics Program that will be integral to initiating a new Newborn Screening Center (NBS) in the State of Florida, located in Jacksonville. The Metabolic Genetics Program will collaborate closely with the existing NBS Center at UF College of Medicine-Gainesville (UFGV), one of three existing programs in Florida. Specific additional aims of this state-funded program will include the following, which will be done in coordination with other members of the Division of Genetics: the development of a specific telemedicine program for patients with metabolic conditions and for patients with neurofibromatosis and other related conditions; the development of a regional continuing medical education (CME) course on Genetics; outreach and collaboration with existing Florida NBS centers; and the establishment of a Connective Tissue Disorders (CTD) Clinic. 

POSITION HIGHLIGHTS:

Clinical services will be provided as inpatient consultations for children admitted to UF Health Jacksonville and Wolfson Children’s Hospital – where the catchment population exceeds 1.5 million people – and outpatient care in our pediatric multispecialty clinic in conjunction with advanced practice providers and genetic counselors. Night and weekend call responsibilities will be shared equitably with other division faculty. The successful candidate will have experience in the evaluation, diagnosis, and management of children with genetic conditions and a proven record of excellent clinical care in a patient and family-centered environment. The appointment will be at the tenure/non-tenure accruing level of Assistant/Associate/Full Professor depending upon experience and qualifications. 

PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  • M.D. or D.O. degree or equivalent 
  • Current Board Certification or Eligibility in Clinical Genetics and Genomics 
  • Eligible to obtain and maintain a valid Florida Medical License
  • One or more of the following are characteristics:
    • Current Board Certification or Eligibility in Medical Biochemical Genetics
    • Current Board Certification or Eligibility in Clinical Biochemical Genetics
    • Significant experience in the diagnosis and management of metabolic disorders
    • Significant experience in leading a newborn screening program
  • Salary, rank, and academic track will be commensurate with candidate experience and credentials.
