Director, Pediatric Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT)
Baylor College of Medicine (BCM), in conjunction with its internationally recognized affiliate, Texas Children’s Hospital (TCH) — the world’s largest children’s hospital, No. 1 children’s hospital in Texas, and consistently among the best children’s hospitals for cancer care in the country — is seeking a pediatric hematologist/oncologist to serve as the Director of the Pediatric Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT)/Stem Cell Transplant Program at Texas Children’s Hospital. TCH/BCM is located within the “largest medical city in the world” in Houston, Texas.
The new Director will be a transformational physician scientist and a leader who can effect change in a highly productive clinical and research program.
The hematology/oncology clinical program, one of the most active in the country, treats children and adolescents with various hematologic, oncologic, immunologic, and genetic disorders. The Director of Pediatric BMT will play a prominent role in overseeing the activities of the premier pediatric bone marrow and stem cell transplantation program at Texas Children’s Cancer Center.
Our state-of-the-art, 25-bed inpatient transplant unit is among the largest of its kind in the Southwestern United States and focuses exclusively on transplantation and cell therapy. The Bone Marrow and Stem Cell Transplant Service performs over 120 transplants per year.
Individuals with an MD/DO or MD/DO/PhD degree and a record of developing young clinicians into future leaders in pediatric hematology/oncology, along with an outstanding achievement and leadership in the fields of pediatric hematology and oncology with a strong commitment to research, innovation, interdisciplinary collaboration, and education are encouraged to apply.
This position reports to the Chief, Section Hematology/Oncology – Department of Pediatrics who is also the Elise C. Young Chair of Oncology and Professor, Pediatrics and Director of Texas Children’s Cancer and Hematology Center.
The Baylor College of Medicine/Texas Children’s Hospital Director of Pediatric Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) is responsible for the:
- Oversight of the well-established Pediatric Bone Marrow Transplant/Stem Cell Transplant program;
- Education of fellows, residents, medical students, and staff;
- Active involvement in inpatient quality, safety, and administrative activities; and academic/scholarly activities;
- Among others.
BCM/TCH prefers someone with a strong background in gene therapy, CRISPR genome editing. Candidates should possess the vision and experience to promote communication and collaboration throughout BCM/TCH and build consensus around strategic priorities for academic research, scholarship, education, and outreach in hematology, cancer services, and research as related to bone marrow transplant.
