Division Chief of Cardiothoracic Imaging Description

The Department of Radiology at the University of Iowa Roy J. and Lucille A. Carver College of Medicine is seeking a dynamic and visionary academic-clinician to serve as the Division Chief of Cardiothoracic Imaging. We are currently accepting applications for an Assistant, Associate, and/or Full Professor with fellowship training in Cardiothoracic Imaging. Expertise in all aspects of cardiovascular and thoracic imaging is essential. Experience in clinical operations and strong interest in mentorship, research, and teaching is required.

There are approximately 40 staff physicians, 13 fellows, 15 Ph.D. researchers, and 33 residents within University of Iowa Radiology Department. Our advanced equipment uses two Siemens 16-Slice Sensations CT scanners (one devoted entirely to research), a Siemens 64-slice scanner, three Toshiba Aquilions, four 1.5 Tesla MRI scanners (including a GECVII MRI scanner), a Siemens 3T MR, seven Siemens ultrasound machines, two new, state-of-the-art Siemens GI fluoroscopy suites, and two recently-installed angiographic suites.

The Division of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Imaging deals with all aspects of chest imaging including CT guided chest/lung biopsies, CT aortic and coronary angiography, and opportunities for MRI cardiac and aortic imaging. Clinical responsibilities include plain film and digital chest radiography of inpatients and outpatients as well as imaging of the surgical, cardiac, and medical intensive care units. Facilities include several new spiral CT scanners with some equipped with CT fluoroscopy. Using a new dual source CT, the Division in collaboration with cardiology, provides full CTA coronary angiography, including coronary calcium quantification and complete functional analysis of heart morphology and function. State-of-the-art workstations and software also enable our radiologists to perform CAD analysis of radiographs for nodules as well as volumetric and growth assessment of lung nodules.

Research is an important part of Radiology at Iowa. Current external funding for research at Iowa is in the 50 percentile of academic radiology departments. The Department has a strong research record in imaging, and there are opportunities to participate in research activities in collaboration with established researchers in the Iowa Institute of Biomedical Imaging (IIBI), Iowa Comprehensive Imaging Center (ICLIC), and the Advanced Pulmonary Physiomic Imaging Lab (APPIL). The IIBI is overseen by Radiology and includes 3T and 7T research scanners.
