Memory Disorders Clinical Faculty Description

The Department of Neurology at the University of California, Irvine (UCI) seeks an experienced clinical faculty member to join its Memory Disorders Program. The faculty position can involve clinical and academic activities at either UC Irvine Medical Center, the VA Long Beach Medical Center, Gottschalk Medical Plaza on the university campus in Irvine, or other community sites located throughout Orange County.

The Department of Neurology in the UC Irvine Health School of Medicine offers comprehensive, compassionate, world-class care for the entire spectrum of neurological conditions. Our UCI Health neurologists are national leaders in the care of patients suffering from stroke, epilepsy, seizures, brain tumors, degenerative nerve diseases, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease and other movement disorders, as well as memory disorders, including Alzheimer’s disease.

We are engaged in basic and translational research to better understand the fundamentals of neurology and use the best clinical approaches for our patients. As part of Orange County’s only academic medical center, our neurologists also actively pursue leading-edge research to minimize or eradicate the effects of diseases to advance the well-being, health, and care of our patients. This means our patients often have access to new therapies and treatments before they are available elsewhere. In fact, UCI is home to one of 50 National Cancer Institute-designated comprehensive cancer centers and holds a NIH Clinical Translational Science Award.

The Position:
Candidate Responsibilities:

The Department of Neurology at the University of California, Irvine seeks a new clinical faculty member to join their Division of Memory Disorders, Dementia and Aging.

The successful candidate will report to the current Medical Director, Claudia Kawas, MD and to the interim Chair, Tahseen Mozaffar, MD. Salary and academic rank for this position will be commensurate with the applicant’s experience and academic background.

Professional Qualifications: 

  • An M.D., M.D./Ph.D., D.O., or equivalent degree with active board certification or eligibility in Neurology with fellowship training in either Memory Disorders, Geriatric Neurology, Dementia, and Aging.
  • Eligibility to obtain an active and unrestricted medical practice license to practice in the State of California.
  • Qualified to hold a faculty appointment in the Department of Neurology and hold medical staff privileges with the UCI Medical Center.

Personal Qualifications/Experience:

  • Dedication to patients, their families, and providing excellent service.
  • Interest and experience in working in a collaborative comprehensive neurosciences center.
  • Active involvement with international, national, and/or regional professional societies preferred.
  • Interests in clinical research.
