Answering Difficult Interview Questions

question upside downEver given a job interview in which you could not think of anything good to say in response to some of the questions asked? We know so many interviewers, who do this on purpose in an attempt to derail you, confuse you and force you to reveal information you want to hide. Since these types of questions can be asked anytime during the interview, you should be prepared and have really good answers up your sleeve if you want to stand out in the massive pool of candidates.

We talked to some of our hiring managers who shared the answers they would like applicants to give when asked a difficult question. Let us take a look at some common ones.

Question: What is your weakness that is actually a weakness and not a strength for our company?

Answer: I am really impatient. If I have a team, I will want them to perform on their very first day with their very first task. Should they fail, I really do not feel like delegating them tasks and try to do everything myself. Obviously, this is not possible every time so a better way is to let them know what is expected of them beforehand and give them the training required to achieve this. Yes, initially, this might take time, but in the long run, it is actually a time saver and worth it.

Question: Will you want my job in the next couple of years?

Answer: Probably, after ten years or more. Hopefully, by that time you will be an executive and will want this department in the most skilled of hands.

Question: You keep on switching your career. Why should I risk having you on my team?

Answer: Indeed, I have worked in different industries, but doing this has helped me in gaining a set of diverse skills, which can be applied across any industry. Using them, I have become an innovative problem solver. If given a chance, I can use these skills and help you achieve your goals, proving myself to be a very valuable addition on your team.

Question: What if you will not have any promotions to enjoy in the next five years?

Answer: As long as I am learning and growing within my position, this will not be much of an issue. I am sure when the time is right I will be rewarded well for my efforts.

So at your next interview, make sure your answers are similar to what we have shared above. Should that be, your phone will definitely ring and you can expect an offer on the table soon enough. Good luck!
