Health Care Jobs are Growing Rapidly in Houston

healthcare jobsThe entire United States is suffering from a lack of health care jobs. But for Houston, this is far from the truth. A recent analysis reveals there are several opportunities in the health care field. So why not take advantage of the opportunity and secure a job?

The US Bureau of Labor Statistics has reported that this is the third month in which jobs have reduced in the hospital sector in the entire country. However, stats for Houston show striking differences. The numbers of health care jobs in this region have increased by almost 25%, which is quite high when compared to other industries.

A list of the top five companies with the most openings for the next month was revealed. Among them, three are health care companies. The number one position on the list is taken by HCA Gulf Coast Division which has posted over a thousand openings on the same website. Another notable one is Houston Methodist Hospital which has acquired a third place in the overall rankings and posted over 950 jobs. Most of these are clinical and cover a large range of occupations including assistants, physicians and nurses.

Willie French is the talent acquisition director at Houston Methodist Hospital. He stated that Houston has witnessed a steady growth in the health care sector over the past few years, and believed strategic planning to be the prime region behind this. He also said that the Methodist Hospital itself has completed several expansion projects and even a new hospital in the western region. French also said that the numbers of diseases are also increasing and so more personnel are now required to handle the growing number of patients.

Since more patients are utilizing hospital services, there is a particular increase in demand for nurses. The patients which visit the hospital require intensive care in most cases, and can only be handled by qualified, registered nurses. As such the entire health care industry is actively hiring nurses for emergency rooms, operation theaters, intensive care units and rehab.

The fourth place on the overall list has been secured by the Texas Children’s Hospital, which has posted almost 815 vacant positions. The hospital opened its west campus recently in 2011.

The other two companies with the highest number of job openings are McDonald’s Corp. with 1,002 positions and Halliburton with 640 positions.
