The Niche Talent That Will Take You to the Top

Everyone has unique talents that make us stand out from the crowd. Some people possess the ability to sing – but no one does it in the exact same way. Others are brilliant painters – but each has his or her own flair with the brush that allows them to create individual masterpieces. There are plenty of motivational speakers out there, but each has their own philosophy on how to help others achieve their goals.

Whatever your talent is, you should craft it, nourish it and build on it. It is the niche talent that will take you to the top of your field.

Doing what we were meant to do creates fun, excitement and contentment in our lives, and invariably, in the lives of the people around us. When you’re excited about something it’s contagious. You may already be following the path you were meant to walk on and that’s fantastic! Not everyone acts on doing what they know they were meant to do.

Sometimes, even if you know it’s the “path,” you’re supposed to travel, it can start to lose its shine . . . here’s an idea for you:

Tony Bennett. A few years back he was singing his fabulous standards in Las Vegas to older crowds. His son, also his manager, had the notion to put his dad on MTV. Tony agreed, if a bit skeptically. Neither had a clue what was to follow.

That one innovative idea exploded into a renewed career! He became the hottest talent on MTV and VH-1. His tapes and CDs sold like hotcakes and his music once again topped the charts. His concerts were sold out, drawing grandmothers and grandfathers who were accompanied by their grandkids, converted Bennett fans.

Bennett and his son plussed Tony’s career by simply exposing his talents to a new generation. All it took was one idea. You can do this too. By plussing your talents you can create or recreate a career you didn’t know was possible.

‘For the next thirty days, think, talk, act, walk, smell and feel like business is booming – and it will.’

How can you plus your natural talents and create the life you want?

First, know what your unique gifts are. Write it (or them) down in a journal or notebook. You may already be working in the field you’re naturally talented in. If you’re not, chances are you already know what you should really be doing, so write it down.

Next, I want you to plus it.

Let’s say you have all of these stories in your head and you know deep down inside you should be publishing these, but you don’t know where to begin. So, your talent is: I write short stories.

If you were to plus that you would write: My book of short stories is a mega bestseller all over the world. (What action steps will YOU take to make it a mega-best-seller?) Plus it again: Each of my short stories has been picked up in audio format for (this) Internet audience or (that) radio program. (What action steps will you take?)

Okay, now you know what you are going for, so it’s time to create action steps to make each of these statements come to fruition. How many action steps does it take to get from stories in your head to published status? Write them down. Do the same for the plusses you’ve written.

Along the way you’ll learn a lot about yourself, your chosen field and the power of a focused mind.
