FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Kaye/Bassman Appoints Practice Leader of Professional Services and Private Equity Portfolio Specialty Practices

Dallas, Texas – 7/22/2013:

What does it take to become a leader of case managers in 2011? Nursing and social work skills in depth, a knack for finance and systems, interpersonal skills, and a rare combination of sensitivity to patient needs and the thick skin sometimes required to advocate for the protection of those patients. And, now more than ever, managers of case managers must possess a finely honed ability to balance the ethical imperative to provide top-quality care with the financial imperatives of hospitals undergoing rapid change.

Given the financial strains wrought by macroeconomic malaise and health-care reform, there’s no way around it: To move up in a hospital case-management department, “a clinical case manager needs to understand business aspects of delivering services,” says Cheri Lattimer, RN, BSN, executive director of the Case Management Society of America.

Still, leaders in case management must remain deeply involved in their clinical calling. “Hospital executives don’t want someone who will sit at her desk all day,” says John Fulcher, director of health-care recruiting for Bauer Consulting Group in El Paso, Texas. “One of my clients who’s a director of case management has to go on rounds every day.”

There is no certain path to promotion in a case-management department, but there are diverse possibilities. “There are a few different routes to management,” says Brad Ellis, health-care division leader for recruiter Kaye/Bassman International in Plano, Texas. “It can be long tenure and superior performance in case management, or becoming an expert in a particular health-care IT system, or certifications in different areas. But you need a nursing background; social work alone doesn’t cut it anymore.”

Kaye/Bassman International Corp., an executive search firm with over three decades of experience in professional, executive, technical and scientific search, has appointed John McSpadden as the Practice Leader over the organization’s Professional Services Specialty Practice as well as the Private Equity Portfolio Specialty Practice.  John comes to Kaye/Bassman from DHR International, where he served as Executive Vice President and Managing Director of the firm’s Dallas office.

“I have known John for a decade and have always been impressed with his knowledge, professionalism and creativity in the search industry.  Our corporate responsibility is to serve John and ensure he has all the resources he needs to effectively serve his clients and candidates.  We are committed to helping John grow one of the most successful search divisions in our three decade plus history,” states Jeff Kaye, Co-CEO of Kaye/Bassman International.

The Professional Services Specialty Practice of Kaye/Bassman International specializes in the placement of Directors, Partners, Practice Leaders & Team Lift-Out searches for Top Management Consulting Firms, Public Accounting Firms and Specialty Consulting Firms.  Additionally, John leads a team dedicated to providing permanent and interim leadership to Private Equity Portfolio Firms focusing on CFO, COO, Vice President, and Director positions.

“With over a decade of experience in executive search, I know it is rare to be able to offer my clients the benefits and flexibility of a boutique executive search firm yet the resources of a global organization.  Kaye/Bassman is that rare combination, and I look forward to continuing to serve our candidates as they advance their careers and our clients as they gain a competitive advantage,” says Mr. McSpadden.
