Page Southerland Page Wins UT Med School Competition

Page Southerland Page LLP has won one of the coveted design assignments associated with pspstanford-lokey_600the Dell Medical School campus, which will be built at the University of Texas. The Austin-based architecture firm in partnership with ZGF Architects of Los Angeles will design two buildings — the 241,000-square-foot research building and the 200,000-square-foot medical office building.

Page Southerland Page declined to comment about winning the competition, which drew numerous inquiries and came down to four finalist teams.

Bob Burke, a principal at Page Southerland Page, directed all inquiries about the project to Robert Cullick, a spokesman for UT.

Cullick confirmed Page Southerland Page’s selection, citing the firm’s “extensive work in high-technology science and research areas, including molecular and neuroimaging centers at the Baylor College of Medicine and a center for radiation oncology for the University of Texas Southwestern.”

pspucsd-cc-courtyard_600Cullick also noted Page Southerland Page’s long history in Austin, including being the architect for the 1937 Austin City Hall. He said the partnership with ZGF Architects added to the team’s strength, given that firm’s “extensive experience in health care, research and higher education.”

The process is beginning for architecture firms interested in designing the medical school’s education and administration building.

Read more about that process in the upcoming edition of Breaking Ground, which will publish July 5.
