Our client is an industry leading publicly traded company, looking for a Vice President of Construction to oversee their projects and teams throughout North America.  Our client and their team operate in a fast paced, collaborative and detailed fashion.  They are an established company with locations around the globe and they take pride in their entrepreneurial approach while having systems and guidelines in place to support their continued growth.

Position Summary

This role will report directly to the Executive Vice President.  The Vice President of Construction is a “hands on” role that is responsible for the overall management of the commercial construction process.  The ideal candidate will have extensive site work project experience, as well as, experience building and leading project management teams. This position will involve heavy travel.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • The primary duty of this position is to drive projects to completion by proving leadership and insight related to the development and construction process.
  • Responsible for establishing and maintaining schedules
  • Work with the Land Development team performing site inspections and evaluations on current and future land purchases and development
  • Assisting as necessary in the due diligence process on prospective land purchase and development projects
  • Developing both preliminary and detailed construction estimates
  • Extensive knowledge of the civil process related to earthwork, sewer, water and pavement
  • Work with Engineers to value and evaluate construction plans
  • Procuring new vendors/trades to bid projects
  • Responsible for job cost tracking, reporting and analysis
  • Provide cost updates to Executives
  • Ability to hire, train and mentor employees
  • Additional duties as assigned

Education and Experience

  • 5+ years of general contractor experience
  • Highly motivated, detail oriented, a leader that is driven to meet commitments and deadlines
  • High degree of knowledge and understanding of development and construction processes and practices
  • Ability to multi task and manage several on-going projects with efficiency, high energy, flexibility, and organizational skills
  • Ability to communicate both verbally and in writing
  • High level of proficiency in Microsoft product (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • B.S. in Civil Engineering/Construction/or similar
  • Preference given to those with extensive “dirt work” background
