Its common for people to feel unhappy or unfulfilled with their work, but how do you know when it is time to quit? Here are 14 Signs that it’s time to fire up your resume and start searching for a new opportunity.

You don’t love it, or even like it

If you get absolutely no enjoyment from what you do, you will never be able to reach your potential. You just fall into the grind, and “get by” doing what you have to do.

You’re company is a sinking ship

You don’t have to go down with it. Find something else.

You’re miserable every morning

You simply dread having to get up and go to work.

You dislike your co-workers and/or your boss

It’s inevitable that you will work with someone you don’t care for, but you shouldn’t you have personal issues, that can not be resolved, with the majority of people you work with.

You’re consistently stressed, negative, and/or unhappy at work

If you get anxious or unhappy just thinking about work, that’s a good sign that it’s time to move on.

Your health is suffering

Whether it is due to the work, people, or culture, you can’t let you work related stress be the main contributor for your deteriorating health.

You don’t fit in with, or believe in the company

You have moral, ethical, or cultural objections to how the company operates. Whatever your issues, this creates an uncomfortable working environment.

Your work performance is suffering

If you are capable of high performance, but no longer have the motivation to be productive at work.

You no longer have good work-life balance

When you find that you’re spending less time with your family because of work, or you cannot commit the necessary time to your job.

Your skills are not being tapped

Management doesn’t acknowledge that you have more to offer than what you’ve been contributing for a significant amount of time, you’ve been passed over for promotion, or attempts to take on more challenging assignments have failed.

You have been given more work, but not more pay

If the company is performing well, but they have downsized staff, giving you a heavier load, but no additional pay to compensate your additional required time and effort.

Your ideas are no longer heard or valued

You can’t seem to get time with the ‘powers that be’; or you cannot get approvals or acknowledgment for great work

You’re bored

If you’re not growing or learning anything new, you’ve outgrown the position and there is no opportunity for advancement, it’s time to get out.

You are experiencing verbal abuse, sexual harassment, or are aware of any type of other illegal behavior

If you’re the victim of bullying, sexual harassment or other egregious behavior, regardless of what is being done to correct it, you should definitely keep an eye out for a new position.

Once you have made the decision that it is time to move on, carefully consider how you will make your exit. You don’t want to end up right back were you are now with your next job, nor do you want to lose any possible valuable connections.
