Hospital Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Reports to: Hospital Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Supervises: Controller, Accountant, Patient Access Department
Texas Surgical Hospital offers the most innovative treatments for chronic pain and injuries in North Texas. Texas Surgical Hospital, in conjunction with Kiron Capital, seek a Hospital Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to oversee the day-to-day financial wellbeing of the 26-bed surgical hospital in Plano, Texas (just north of Dallas). This is a rare opportunity for a strategic healthcare executive and “team-player” with the financial acumen and ability to embolden our core values of excellence in healthcare and a highly ethical “patient first” approach. The Hospital CFO will join the senior executive leadership team and will be responsible for the financial operations and fiscal management of the hospital. The CFO administers, directs, coordinates, and monitors all hospital financial activities and keeps the hospital CEO, COO and Board of Trustees informed of the financial condition of the facility.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Works with the hospital CEO, COO, hospital board, and employees to develop financial goals and objectives for the hospital.
Provides proactive, sound guidance regarding management of assets and investments, and financial trends within the facility.
Works with department managers and patient care executives to implement financial plans and productivity benchmarks, and to monitor progress toward financial goals.
Works with corporate development team on M&A and strategic initiatives.
Is actively involved in Texas Surgical Hospital system management approaches, corporate performance, and the growth of a team-oriented culture.
In conjunction with the CEO and COO, establishes a three-year strategic financial plan for the hospital as part of the hospital’s strategic planning process.
Employs a system of responsible accounting, including budget and internal controls.
Ensures that monthly financial statements and bi-weekly productivity reports are completed and distributed on a timely basis.
Ensures that all balance sheet accounts are reconciled monthly, and a system of internal controls are in place to facilitate a clean audit opinion with no audit adjustments or internal control deficiencies noted.
Maintains effective revenue cycle processes to keep patient accounts receivable at an acceptable level and increase the hospital’s cash flow.
Maintains a thorough working knowledge of federal, state, and managed care reimbursement payment methodologies, including contractual accounting, payment calculations, billing requirements, and compliance issues.
Specific areas of responsibility include patient financial services; maximizing cash flow consistent with sound credit and collection policies while maintaining good rapport with the community; financial reporting with detailed analysis of financial statements and variances from budget; audits of financial statements and internal controls; examination of insurance policies to ascertain that hospital assets are properly insured against loss and that the hospital’s liability coverage meets Texas Surgical Hospital requirements.
Monitors capital asset expenditures and depreciation; prepares annual operating budgets with input and involvement at the departmental level, as well as capital budgets and cash flow projections; arranges lines of credit and maintains proper banking relations; and adheres to Texas Surgical Hospital and hospital corporate compliance standards and procedures.
Keeps the Texas Surgical Hospital team (hospital CEO and COO) aware of all key financial developments. Fulfills accountability for the hospital by submitting to Texas Surgical Hospital all appropriate reports and functions as a cooperating member of a great team.
Understands the benefit of and supports the hospital’s participation in the group purchasing organization (GPO). Monitors hospital compliance within the GPO. Works closely with the Purchasing Director to ensure compliance.
In conjunction with the CEO and COO, manages relationships and communications with Texas Surgical Hospital lenders and equity holders.
Educational and Experience Requirements:
Master’s degree in Business or Healthcare Administration, or related field, with an emphasis in accounting or finance; or have a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or related field, with an emphasis in accounting or finance and be a licensed Certified Public Accountant or have equivalent work experience.
A minimum five (5) years previous experience in hospital finance or accounting position with supervisory responsibilities is required.
Demonstrated experience working with a large practice of doctors in an administrative or management role. Prior CFO experience preferred, but not required.
Experience with electronic medical record (EHR) and practice management systems.
