Under the strategic leadership of a new Chair, the Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology at the University of Arizona (U of A) College of Medicine – Tucson//Banner University Medical Center – Tucson invites applications for the position of Division Chief, Maternal-Fetal Medicine. The successful candidate will be an outstanding clinician, researcher, and teacher who will develop and implement a comprehensive strategic plan for the Division.
The Maternal-Fetal Medicine Division at U of A is a robust, multidisciplinary division that includes:
- ACGME-accredited Maternal-Fetal Medicine fellowship training program with three (3) MFM fellows.
- Our state-of-the-art Fetal Care Center provides a world-class fetal diagnostic and surgery center to the region and nationally.
- A dynamic team comprised of clinical faculty, fellows, advanced practice providers, registered diagnostic medical sonographers, ultrasound technicians, perinatal nurse navigators, and a genetic counselor.
- Comprehensive ambulatory and inpatient services, including Labor & Delivery coverage, antepartum care, high-risk consultations, advanced ultrasound, and fetal diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
- Specialized programs in cardio-obstetrics, fetal surgery, renal disease, diabetes in pregnancy, and preterm labor and birth prevention.
- A collaborative Fetal Care Program with neonatology, pediatric subspecialties, genetic counseling and testing, and advanced imaging modalities.
- Banner – University Medical Center Tucson: This High-Performing, 649-bed hospital is Southern Arizona’s only Level I Trauma Center and is a U.S. News & World Report Best Regional Hospital.
In addition to being a division Chief, the candidate is expected to perform clinical duties related to the practice of Maternal-Fetal Medicine including MFM consults, prenatal diagnostic and therapeutic interventions, staffing high-risk clinic, antepartum rounds, and MFM call. The candidate will serve as a strong mentor for our medical students, residents, MFM fellows, and faculty. The University of Arizona College of Medicine – Tucson has a well-developed research infrastructure to support early and mid-level investigators in their research endeavors; and this will be a major part of the Division Chief’s role. ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT:
With approximately 30 faculty, the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology is comprised of three (3) divisions including Maternal-Fetal Medicine, General Obstetrics and Gynecology, and Gynecologic Oncology. The department offers a four-year ACGME-accredited residency program with five (5) residents per year, and a Maternal-Fetal Medicine fellowship. The department fosters a strong culture of inquiry and innovation, with research spanning basic science, translational, and clinical disciplines.
With strong support and collaborations within the College of Medicine-Tucson, Banner – University Medical Center Tucson, and other colleges within the university, the next Division Chief of Maternal-Fetal Medicine will have the opportunity to lead and strengthen the division in the ongoing pursuit of excellence.
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE:
Reporting to and working in collaboration with the Department Chair, Dr. Marta Crispens, the Division Chief will be an excellent clinical MFM specialist, innovative translational researcher, and enthusiastic educator, who can build upon excellence in existing clinical, teaching, and team-based research programs. They will recognize the importance of developing an engaged and integrated faculty and staff to build and nurture strong cross-functional and multidisciplinary care teams, including the state-of-the-art Fetal Care Center. The role will also include actively participating in the recruitment and retention of division faculty.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Qualified candidates must possess a Doctor of Medicine (MD), Doctor of Osteopathic (DO) or equivalent degree from an accredited institution.
- Must be Board Certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ABOG) or (AOBOG), and eligible for unrestricted medical licensure in the State of Arizona.
- Fellowship trained in Maternal-Fetal Medicine is required.
- The candidate must also be eligible for a University of Arizona appointment at the Associate or Professor rank.
