The Estimator will support preconstruction efforts and help deliver accurate, competitive project pricing for a commercial general contractor. This individual will work closely with operations, project management, and preconstruction teams to evaluate project opportunities, develop cost estimates, and support the pursuit of new work.
The ideal candidate is analytical, organized, and comfortable reviewing construction documents, coordinating with subcontractors, and managing multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare conceptual, schematic, design development, and final construction cost estimates
- Review drawings, specifications, and project documents to identify scope requirements and pricing considerations
- Perform quantity takeoffs and develop detailed cost analyses
- Solicit, evaluate, and compare subcontractor and supplier proposals
- Assist in the preparation of bid packages, scopes of work, and proposal submissions
- Participate in project handoff meetings and support the transition from preconstruction to operations
- Identify potential cost, schedule, and constructability concerns during the estimating process
- Maintain estimate files, pricing databases, and historical cost information
- Coordinate with project teams to ensure estimates align with project schedules and client expectations
- Support value engineering efforts and alternative pricing exercises when required
- Track bid opportunities and help manage proposal deadlines
Qualifications
- 2+ years of estimating experience within commercial construction
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and contract documents
- Understanding of construction methods, materials, and building systems
- Experience performing quantity takeoffs and assembling project budgets
- Strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously
- Experience with estimating software is a plus
- Industrial, manufacturing, healthcare, or institutional project experience is beneficial but not required
