The Department of Psychiatry at the University of Florida (UF) College of Medicine is one of the largest multifaceted programs, centered within a major academic health center. Faculty in the Department of Psychiatry are engaged in groundbreaking projects covering a variety of interests through our Centers, labs, and collaborations with other departments. The Department of Psychiatry spans services across adult, addiction, and child/adolescent specializations, including a freestanding psychiatric hospital, a large consult liaison service at the main UF Shands Hospital, the Florida Recovery Center operated by our Addiction Division, and multiple research centers including the Center for Addiction Research & Education, the Center for OCD and Related Disorders (COARD), and the Center for Autism and Neurodevelopment (CAN). UF is also an active site for the NIH-landmark Adolescent Brain Cognitive Development (ABCD) Study.

The Department of Psychiatry at the University of Florida College of Medicine (UFCOM) is currently recruiting for a dynamic and initiative-taking clinical leader to serve as the Psychiatry Executive Vice Chair of Clinical Operations (Executive Vice Chair). As a department leader of Psychiatry, the Psychiatry Executive Vice Chair will have a strong commitment to continuing to advance the field of psychiatry, improve patient care and access, and provide the academic environment for innovative research. The successful candidate will provide strategic, innovative, and operational leadership, and will have responsibility and accountability for the clinical performance of all sections within the department.

Where You’ll Work:
  • UF Health offers psychiatric and addiction services at six locations, five in Gainesville and one in Vero Beach.
  • UF Health Shands Psychiatric Hospital is an 80-bed free-standing psychiatric hospital located on a private, picturesque, 18-acre campus in northwest Gainesville.
  • UF Health Florida Recovery Center is an 81-bed, free standing addiction treatment facility located on a private campus in east Gainesville.
  • Clinical and basic science research cover a diverse portfolio of topics, including critical care and resuscitative medicine; clinical biomarkers; neurological emergencies; healthcare disparities; patient safety; medical education; simulation, and global health. Individual faculty engage in federally funded research studies and hold leadership positions.
  • The UF Department of Psychiatry receives approximately $8 million in grant funding.
  • Training: 45 Residents, 20 Fellows, and medical students are specialty trained across all clinical sites.

Professional Qualifications:
  • MD or DO, MD /Ph.D. or equivalent degree required.
  • Board Certification in Psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN) with ongoing clinical activity. All physicians must be ABPN/AOBNP Board Certified/Board-Eligible.
  • Completion of an ACGME-accredited psychiatric residency training program. Experience as core faculty member in an ACGME-accredited Psychiatry Residency Program.
  • Eligible for unrestricted medical licensure in the state of Florida prior to the start of appointment.
  • Possess a demonstrated commitment to innovation and academic pursuits; and will have the leadership skills necessary for guiding faculty development and advancement across research, clinical, and academic missions.
  • Have leadership experience and be willing to further develop one’s leadership abilities.
  • Experience managing and supporting physicians and staff.
  • A combination of education, training, certification, and experience will be evaluated on an individual basis for comparability to the minimum education and experience requirements.
