Kaye/Bassman, one of Forbes’ top ranked executive search firms, has been partnering with Pharma and Biotech companies for over 35 years. Our Medical Affairs recruiting practice is led by Michael Pietrack, recognized as the #1 Medical Affairs recruiter in the U.S. and host of The Pharmaverse Podcast.

We have been retained by a fast-growing, venture-backed neurotechnology company that has just launched its first commercial product in the US: an FDA-cleared, at-home neuromodulation device for mental health. Early clinical uptake has been strong, and the company is now hiring a Global Medical Director to help build out its US medical affairs presence and shape how this new category of treatment reaches patients and prescribers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the senior US-based medical affairs leader, reporting directly to the CMO.
  • Manage the company’s Medical Science Liaison(s), an intentionally broad structure for a company at this stage
  • Lead live clinician education, including presentations to audiences of 100+ prescribers at Grand Rounds style events
  • Lead live prescriber trainings for strategic health system partners, building on the company’s existing online prescriber certification program
  • Act as a peer-level clinical resource for practicing physicians, drawing on your own clinical background to have credible, in-the-trenches conversations with prescribers
  • Engage directly with payers and large health systems on market access questions alongside the MSL function
  • Take on medical legal review, adverse event handling, and other regulatory responsibilities that a larger organization would split across separate teams
  • Take on ad hoc, cross-functional work as needed. At a company of this size, medical information, medical affairs, and related functions often sit with one person
  • Bring a global perspective to the role, including some near-term regulatory involvement on the European side

Who They’re Looking For

  • MD preferred, but PsyD or PharmD candidates with the right profile will also be considered
  • Medical Director experience within Pharma or Medical Device
  • Clinical background/industry experience in psychiatry or another CNS-adjacent specialty. Neuromodulation experience is a plus, not a requirement
  • A credible clinical voice who can speak peer-to-peer with practicing physicians, not just present data as an outside liaison
  • Entrepreneurial and independent, genuinely energized by ambiguity and a broad, undefined remit rather than a narrow lane
  • Comfortable taking on people management even without prior direct reports; this role will manage MSLs
  • Able to navigate regulatory questions without a big company playbook to lean on
  • Experience outside the US is a plus, given some European regulatory involvement
  • Based on the East Coast strongly preferred, for time zone alignment and future hub plans

Why This Role

  • Join at a pivotal moment. The company’s flagship device just received FDA clearance and launched commercially in the US, with strong early adoption
  • Own the US medical affairs function from the ground up, with a genuinely broad mandate
  • Work directly with senior company leadership on strategy for a new category of care
  • Competitive base salary, bonus, and equity, scaled to your degree and experience
  • A rare chance to leave a real, personal imprint on how an emerging treatment category reaches patients

If you’re a Medical Director with a clinical background and a passion for CNS or mental health innovation, and you’re excited by the opportunity to build a US Medical Affairs department from the ground up, we encourage you to apply.
