Building upon the pioneering research and international leadership in multidisciplinary care for innovative breast cancer treatment, scientific discoveries, world-class clinical trials, and education, the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) is seeking a visionary leader as the next Breast Cancer Center Program Director and Section Chief of Breast Oncology. This individual will drive a new era of growth and influence for UAMS as a leader in statewide cancer care.
The Breast Cancer Center Program Director and Section Chief of Breast Oncology will lead the strategic growth of clinical, research, and educational programs, strengthening the program’s national reputation and extramural funding. This full-time role oversees breast oncology operations, research, education, and patient care across UAMS and its community practices, unifying multidisciplinary teams, expanding statewide services, and recruiting outstanding clinical talent.
This position offers a unique opportunity to lead the UAMS Breast Cancer Center Program and Breast Oncology Section within a supportive and collaborative, well-resourced structure. Working with physicians, APPs, and fellows, the Program Director/Section Chief will advance cutting-edge breast cancer care and discovery, including cellular and gene therapies, quality outcomes and FACT accreditation efforts, therapeutic trials, inpatient and outpatient care, education and mentorship, and scholarly development.

The UAMS Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute is home to Central Arkansas’ only breast team accredited by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers. The UAMS Cancer Service Line provides comprehensive medical, surgical, and radiation oncology care and is ranked in the top 10% nationally for Cancer Care by U.S. News & World Report (2025–2026), the only cancer program in Arkansas to receive this recognition. And as the state’s only health sciences university, UAMS is home to leading cancer researchers who routinely conduct breast cancer clinical trials.
The UAMS Cancer Service Line comprises more than 73 oncology faculty members across 10 College of Medicine departments, supported by advanced practice providers, nurses, allied health professionals, and dedicated quality and administrative teams, which fosters a highly collaborative and multidisciplinary environment.
UAMS is home to the state’s only FACT-accredited bone marrow and tissue transplant program and the internationally recognized UAMS Myeloma Center. The Proton Center of Arkansas, the state’s only proton therapy facility, opened in 2023. In 2024, UAMS achieved Magnet designation, reflecting excellence in nursing practice and leadership.
Reporting to senior leadership, the role is responsible for strategic planning, operational oversight, and financial stewardship across a complex, multidisciplinary academic oncology enterprise.
Breast Cancer Center Program Director & Section Chief of Breast Oncology
Required Qualifications:
- Education: MD, DO, or MBBS degree from an accredited institution.
- Board Certification: Board Certification in Internal Medicine and Medical Oncology (or subspecialty equivalent) by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM).
- Licensing: Eligibility for unrestricted medical licensure and DEA registration in the State of Arkansas.
- Fellowship: Completion of an Oncology or Hematology-Oncology Fellowship.
- Clinical Expertise: 5 to 7+ years of active clinical practice specializing in breast cancer.
- Leadership History: Proven administrative experience as a director, section lead, or program coordinator, ideally within an academic medical center or a National Cancer Institute (NCI)-designated cancer center.
- Academic Standing: A strong scholarly track record to qualify for a faculty appointment at the Associate Professor or Full Professor level at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences.
- Clinical Trials: Documented success in leading or growing clinical trials (e.g., Phase I/II, translational research).
- Funding & Publications: A history of peer-reviewed publications and a record of securing extramural funding (e.g., NIH, DOD).
- Mentorship: A commitment to training hematology/oncology fellows, residents, and junior faculty.
- Professional Affiliations: Active participation in major oncology societies.
- Skills/Attributes: Ability to articulate and implement a strategic vision that integrates clinical care, research, and education across UAMS, the Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute, and affiliated community practices. Demonstrated collaborative, engaging, transparent, and visionary leadership style.
