The Division of Hematology & Oncology at the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC)/Buffett Cancer Center is recruiting for a Mid-Career, Fellowship Trained Physician highly specialized in non-malignant hematology clinical care and research to lead a sub-section of physicians in non-malignant hematology. The Division consist of 32 faculty members and has a fully accredited Fellowship program. The successful candidate for the position of Section Leader of Non-Malignant Hematology will be a transformational physician who is nationally/internationally known for clinical research in non-malignant hematology and will enhance collaborations and attract patients for clinical trials with the goal of increasing survival for all patients with blood disorders. This is an exciting opportunity to join more than 200 oncologists, translational and basic scientists working together fusing science and medicine to speed up breakthroughs in the lab and deliver state-of-the-art care to patients.
The Non-Malignant Hematology Section Leader will participate in the multidisciplinary clinical care of patients and the design and conduct of cancer clinical trials; and will join a vibrant academic division in a university that has expanding clinical and research programs, located in an economically thriving community with a modest cost of living and outstanding school systems. - This leadership position will be 100% non-malignant hematology.
- Faculty of the Division of Oncology & Hematology provide care through Nebraska Medicine.
- Candidate should have a track record in patient-oriented research in non-malignant hematology.
- Multidisciplinary Collaboration: The Section Leader will enjoy participation in multidisciplinary patient care teams, inpatient treatment, outpatient care, clinical trials, and opportunities for collaboration for investigator initiated clinical research, and translational research.
- Areas of interest could include Thrombosis and Hemostasis, Cytopenias, Sickle Cell Disease and Hemoglobinopathies, Apheresis, Coagulation, depending on the experience and background of the applicant.
- Ideal candidates must have interest and experience in teaching fellows, residents, and medical students.
- Well-funded; prodigious lab space available with basic science support.
- Clinical Practice Resources: Each physician has a nurse case manager, disease based advanced practice providers, and a disease-based research team.
- Call Schedule: Faculty members do consults on non-malignant hematology service up to 4-8 weeks/year based on the number of available faculty.
- Applicants must have an MD, DO, or MBBS degree.
- Board Certification in Internal Medicine.
- American Board Certification or Eligibility in a Hematology and/or Medical Oncology related specialty.
- Eligible for licensure in the State of Nebraska.
- Academic credentials which merit appointment as Associate Professor or Professor at the University of Nebraska Medical Center. Rank is dependent upon qualifications at hire.
- Candidates will have a focused interest in clinical care and clinical research for patients with malignant and non-malignant disease. Interest in building clinical trials, bridge the gap between research and clinical.
- Expertise in thrombosis and hemostasis, hemoglobinopathies, and/or cytopenias required.
- A dedicated leader and mentor to scientists, clinicians, and staff.
