Direct Reports: Global Logistic Supervisor and two Buyers


SUMMARY

Leads and manages a team responsible for all aspects of ordering and purchasing products, warehouses, coordinating, and scheduling transportation, logistics and optimizing inventory levels.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage the entire flow of goods and materials to ensure efficient delivery, quality goods and on-time delivery.
  • Lead and develop processes for international supply chain, including logistics, sales operations, trade compliance, planning, warehousing, for the subsidiary and distributor businesses.
  • Purchase materials to support production.
  • Analyze, and supervise storage, use and transport of materials and inventory.
  • Negotiate the best quality and delivery of materials and pricing to produce cost savings and low lead times.
  • Develop and maintain value-based, team based and long-term relationships with suppliers at both strategic and operational level.
  • Improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the organization in managing the inventory levels for optimal response to customer and manufacturing requirements, as well as avoiding negative impact of inventory losses.
  • Manage vendor performance and conduct reviews and periodic meetings to address unresolved issues and areas of improvement.
  • Maintains knowledge of business environment, market conditions, trends, and best practices.
  • Lead, manage and support export, import and all logistical needs for global business.

Maintains business relationships with key contacts in the industry:

  • Develop and maintain supplier standards set forth by company policy and procedures.
  • Develop and maintain supplier report cards and analyze results and report to Senior Management.
  • Continually evaluate products and services offered by existing and prospective vendors.
  • Counsel vendors as needs regarding company’s procurement policies and procedures, vendor performance requirements and product performance expectations.
  • Provide knowledge expertise in the area of emerging logistics and trends within the global marketplace.

Evaluates various markets to ensure costs are competitive and optimized.

  • Monitors weekly dairy commodities pricing.
  • Monitors various markets to determine when it is best to execute market purchases or set contracts.
  • Supports and orders supplies for other departments when needed.
  • Evaluates and determines method of procurement i.e.: Direct purchases, lease, bid or contract.
  • Identify potential cost savings and execute plan to result in cost savings.

Develop and maintains specialty documents:

  • Determines what amount of credit is needed from various suppliers and prepare documents to establish credit for purchases.
  • Complete vendor credit applications and create files for vendor certificates of liability insurance.
  • Maintains files and forms if required to purchase specific DEA restricted items.
  • Maintains kosher certificate files for all raw materials, bases and finished goods.
  • Maintains records with the Illinois Department of Revenue, Alcohol Permits and releases, Sales, and Use tax forms.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree and 5-7 years of supply chain, Import-Export and global logistic experience with DOT and related certifications
  • Prior experience with a global or multi regional food ingredient or food manufacturing company is preferred. Dairy ingredients experience is plus.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to:

  • Read, write, comprehend written, electronic, and spoken instructions, memos, correspondence, communicate verbally by phone and electronically in a professional manner in English.
  • Effectively present information in one-on-one, large, and small group situations to customers, clients, or other employees.
  • Compile data into reports and summaries.
  • Listen to customer needs and respond with appropriate product proposals to meet those needs.
  • Comply with procedures in completing written documentation of sales or calls.

MATHEMATICS SKILLS

Ability to:

  • Compute in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Compute rates, ratios, and percents and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Perform mathematical operations using various units of money, weight, volume, and distance.
  • Fluent with using and preparing worksheets and pivot tables.

REASONING/PROBLEM-SOLVING ABILITY

Ability to:

  • Work independently to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Develop positive customer relationships and respond to inquiries or complaints from customers in a proactive manner.
  • Interpret an extensive variety of technical instruction in mathematical or diagram form and to deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

COMPUTER SKILLS

Working knowledge of:

  • Microsoft Office and ability to learn and use all internal business software.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job:

  • The employee is regularly required to stand, walk, and sit.
  • The employee must be able to operate a keyboard, calculator, and telephone.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • The work location is a traditional office setting.
  • Travel may be necessary.
  • Typical workday attendance will require standard business hours.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee may at times be exposed to fumes.
