Employees shed from Chesapeake Energy Corp. headquarters during the company’s restructuring process may have trouble landing on their feet in Oklahoma City, according to a Dallas oil and gas recruiter.
Chesapeake has confirmed that it has laid off “some” workers as part of a process that will continue at least through Nov. 1 (EnergyWire, Sept. 18).
A list from the Greater Oklahoma City Chamber of Commerce Economic Development Division shows that Chesapeake is the eighth-largest employer in Oklahoma City and the largest oil and gas firm in the metropolis. According to the list, which was updated in May, the company’s Oklahoma City campus employs 4,000 people, but its reach has extended far beyond its own walls into the local restaurant, sports and philanthropic industries, attracting workers who appreciate Chesapeake’s community ties.
