SUNY Upstate Medical University (Upstate)—the region’s largest employer and only academic medical center in Central New York—seeks a diverse pool of nominees and applicants for the position of Professor and Chair in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine in Syracuse, NY. Salary, rank, and tenure consideration will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
SUNY Upstate seeks to maintain a modern Department of Pathology that serves the needs of the community for both traditional anatomic pathology as well as cutting-edge molecular and genomic pathology, including diagnostics. As a part of this objective, it will be essential to support pathologists who specialize in clinical or research areas. Further, the successful candidate will be expected to grow the research portfolio of the department.
The Department of Pathology embraces a tripartite role in clinical service, research, and education. The outstanding pathologists who have been and will be recruited will have protected academic time to further this mission. The Department Chair of Pathology is responsible for the management of the educational program (medical students, pathology residents, and fellows) and research missions of the department.
Qualified candidates must hold a MD or DO, MD /Ph.D. or equivalent degree and should qualify for faculty appointment as Associate Professor or Professor rank. Candidates must be a respected active clinician with a distinguished national/international record of research and possess dynamic, inclusive leadership and a strong interest in clinical operations and administrative expertise. Candidates must have a clear commitment to—and excellence in—education, fostering an inclusive environment, and sponsorship and mentorship of a diverse cadre of students, residents, fellows, and faculty. Candidates must have the demonstrated ability to foster strong collaborations among investigators within the Department, Upstate Medical University, the campus community, and Central New York. The candidate must articulate a compelling vision for the future of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at SUNY Upstate, the role of the department within a highly regarded academic medical center, and the field of pathology and laboratory medicine in general.
