Dayton Children’s Hospital, in partnership with Wright State University, and the Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine Department of Pediatrics seek their fifth Chair. The Chair of Pediatrics oversees the continuum of pediatric medical education and research activities at Boonshoft School of Medicine (BSOM) and Dayton Children’s while also serving as Vice President for Academic Affairs on the Dayton Children’s Hospital Senior Leadership Team and on the Hospital’s Board of Trustees. This position will report directly to the CEO of Dayton Children’s Hospital, and works in collaboration with the CMO to support faculty development and innovation for more than 400 providers (including sub-specialists and APP’s) at Dayton Children’s Hospital.

To achieve that goal, successful candidates will have had an academic career in pediatrics and brings extensive leadership experience, including strategic thinking, administrative oversight, and management skills. Demonstrated leadership at a national, regional, and local level is expected. A commitment to fostering professional development within the Department, including mentorship and sponsorship, will be essential.
Candidates’ academic career may have a focus in any of several areas, including medical education, population health, health policy and advocacy, quality improvement science, implementation science, health services research, health outcomes research, community engaged research, and/or clinical or translational research.

Pediatrics Highlights:
- Locally Specialized, Nationally Recognized: Dayton Children’s see a total of 382,391 patient visits each year.
- The Integrated Pediatric Residency program successfully matched 9 civilian and 7 Air Force students in June 2023 while sustaining and refining our innovative model for virtual recruitment.
- Fellowship programs: Launched Pediatric Hospital Medicine and Pediatric Emergency Medicine Fellowship programs and filled 2 positions in each program in our second match.
- The Dayton Children’s Hospital Center for Health Equity, launched in July 2021, has opened 8 research studies, and submitted its first NIH grant proposal.
- Continuing Medical Education continues to be an important focus in the Department of Pediatrics, highlighted by the annual Neuroscience Symposium and CME Grand Rounds.

- The Department consists of 44 fully affiliated faculty and over 250 subspecialty pediatricians with clinical appointments. The Department is organized in several divisions, e.g., endocrinology, gastroenterology, cardiology, and general pediatrics.
- The Chair of Pediatrics and Vice President for Academic Affairs will support Boonshoft School of Medicine and Dayton Children’s professionals in raising their national profiles through medical education, research, national organization contributions, and advocacy.
Professional Qualifications:
Required Education/Certifications/Licensure
- MD or DO degree
- Ohio medical license or eligibility for Ohio medical license
- Current board certification by the American Board of Pediatrics
- Qualified for faculty appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or higher.
Required Professional Qualifications/Experience
- Leadership experience as a chair, vice chair, program director, division chief, or director in an academic pediatric setting
- Current experience as an actively practicing pediatrician in an academic medical center.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in business administration, healthcare administration, public administration, medical management, or equivalent degree
- Qualified for faculty appointment at the rank of Professor
- A distinguished record of clinical care, teaching, and scholarship with national stature
- Experience in leading educational programs
- Track record of leading a diverse body of faculty, staff, and learners
- Demonstrated fiscal responsibility
- Collaborative leadership skills and ability to relate well within the department and the community
- Experience in recruiting, retaining, mentoring, and developing highly qualified faculty, staff, and residents
- Experience in or a willingness to learn philanthropy pertinent to an academic department.
