Job Title: Chief Financial Officer (CFO)
Location: Watertown, WI

ScionHealth has an opportunity for a Chief Financial Officer (CFO). The CFO will have oversight of Watertown Regional Medical Center (WRMC), located Watertown, WI. Watertown Regional Medical Center is a 95-bed general acute care hospital with an affiliated medical group with clinics in 16 locations and more than 55 employed providers. This hospital operates a PHO (clinically integrated network) that coordinates care to improve the health status of region. Watertown Regional Medical Center has net revenue between $100M and $125M annually.

Watertown Regional Medical Center has been providing the residents of Dodge and Jefferson counties with excellent health care for over 115 years. By placing patients’ needs first, WRMC’s services have grown to include Emergency and Urgent Care, Primary Care, Women’s Health, Orthopedics and Sports Medicine, Heart and Vascular, Neurology, Pulmonology, Ophthalmology, In-patient psych, Cath Lab, Interventional Radiology, and many other services.

This is a rare opportunity for a strategic healthcare executive and “team-player” with the financial acumen and ability to embolden our core values of excellence in healthcare and a highly ethical “patient first” approach. The CFO will implement, support, and maintain the mission/philosophy of Watertown Regional Medical Center.

The Chief Financial Officer is a member of the Executive Leadership Team of the Watertown Regional Medical Center and reports to the CEO. The CFO provides leadership and direction to all financial departments and other non-clinical departments as needed.

The charming city of Watertown, Wisconsin, pop. 24,000, is in southeastern Wisconsin, midway between Milwaukee and Madison – an easy, one-hour commute. Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Drives financial performance of the organization by growing margins, improves revenue cycle performance, reduces operational expenses, and grows revenues.
  • Administers the general accounting, patient business services, including third party reimbursement, financial, and statistical reporting functions of the hospital in accordance with established policies and accounting procedures.
  • Provides formal or informal direction in data processing, distributed systems, material management and medical records functions.
  • Trains subordinates on the above areas and monitors performance to ensure fiscal responsibilities are fulfilled.
  • Assists the CEO in the development of long and short-range hospital operations plans that may include service demand analyses, resources availability analyses and cost benefit analyses of proposed capital and staff expansions.
  • Develops long and short-range operational and capital budgets, which are supported by the hospitals long and short-range plans and objectives.
  • Prepares cash flow analyses and budget variance analyses.
  • Identifies and reports undesirable trends and potential business opportunities and makes recommendations for action.
  • Directs the preparation of internal financial reports including work papers for annual financial audit.
  • Assumes a lead role in analyzing and exploring means of reducing hospital operating costs and increasing revenues based on knowledge of market trends, financial reports, and operating procedures.
  • Responsible for direction and submission on a timely basis all financial data associated reports required by government and other regulated agencies including payroll tax reports, public disclosure reports and third-party payor cost reports.
Required Professional Qualifications:
  • A Degree is required in Accounting, Finance, or a related field that demonstrates the knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and quantitative skills.
  • CPA or Master’s degree strongly preferred.
  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience working at the CFO level in a general medical/surgical acute-care hospital is required. Or a minimum of 5 years’ experience working as an Assistant CFO or Controller in an organization similar to the size and complexities to Watertown Regional Medical Center.
  • Experience is physician practice accounting is preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and communication skills. Must be a strong, hands-on, and approachable leader who understands the value of being a team-player and have an outgoing and friendly personality.
  • Must understand how to motivate and inspire staff to achieve optimal results, while keeping employee satisfaction high.
