Due to departmental growth and programmatic expansion, the HTTC at UC San Diego Health is committed to academic excellence and diversity within the faculty, staff, and student body and seeks a
faculty member specialized in Classical Hematology at the level of Assistant Professor or above. The Hematologist is expected to further build and help expand the multidisciplinary programs (robust clinical programs, basic/translational/clinical research, and educational activities including teaching) of the Division of Hematology/Oncology, Department of Medicine and the Hemophilia and Thrombosis Treatment Center.

The Division is seeking a Classical Hematologist with an interest in clinical, basic science, or translational research and/or medical education involving hemostasis/thrombosis and who is committed to excellence in patient care.

Requirements for the Position:

Candidates must have an MD, DO, or equivalent degree and be board-certified/eligible in Hematology. Candidates must have or be eligible for a California medical license or equivalent certification/permit as determined by the Medical Board of California. The appropriate series and appointment at the Assistant, Associate or Full Professor level will be based on the candidate’s qualifications and experience.

Hemophilia and Thrombosis Treatment Center (HTTC) Program Highlights:

  • Education & Training: The Hemostasis/Thrombosis (Coagulation Medicine) fellowship is an ACGME-accredited 1-year program. A new ACGME-accredited Hematology (2-YR) track fellowship is offered as of July 1, 2023.
  • Advanced Therapies: The HTTC offers consulting services with area specialists, referrals for surgical interventions, home infusion training, emergency care for bleeds, inhibitor management, and coordination of care specialists in infectious disease and hepatology, etc.
  • Point-of-Care Ultrasound Program for rapid detection of joint bleeds, joint evaluation, and evaluation of distal venous thromboembolism, including CME-accredited courses.
  • Comprehensive Patient Care: HTTC offers social work services, physical therapy, nursing support, coordination of home factor infusion for dental care and surgical procedures, transition care for adolescents with bleeding and clotting disorders through Rady Children’s Hospital, genetic counseling, and family planning, as well as combined Heme/Ob-Gyn clinics for women with bleeding disorders.
  • The Hemophilia Research Program includes clinical trials as well as translational and basic research in hemophilia, von Willebrand Disease, and other bleeding disorders. The Division can accommodate up to 40% effort to research and scholarly academic activities.
