The HCMH CFO is a key member of our Admin Team, responsible for direction and oversight of the financial activities and audit function for the organization. This is a FT position with FT benefits including: IPERS, Health, Vision, Dental, Life Insurance and Long Term Disability. PTO and Sick Leave Accrual begins first day of employment.

Job Description: Chief Financial Officer


PRIMARY FUNCTION AND RELATIONSHIP TO ORGANIZATION:

CFO will direct and oversee the financial activities and audit functions of the organization. CFO will manage and coordinate all financial affairs, design and implement systems to identify and control the income and expenditures within the organization, strategize as part of the administration team regarding methods for generating increased revenues and control operational costs in relation to the long-term goals of the organization, the market trend, and the status of the community.

SUPERVISES:

  • Revenue Cycle Director
  • Staff Accountant/Accounts Payable
  • Materials Management
  • IT


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Oversee investments and monitors cash in the best interest of the hospital.
  • Oversee all financial activity, ensuring consistent and proper accounting throughout.
  • Presents financial information in a user-friendly format to the board, leaders and staff.
  • Works with Leadership to develop operational and capital budgets and submits county budget per state guidelines.
  • Prepares and/or monitors work papers necessary for annual audits and cost report preparation.
  • Coordinates annual external audit requirements to ensure a complete financial audit within regulatory guidelines.
  • Files required reports per debt and creditor guidelines
  • In collaboration with IT leadership and staff, oversees the completion of the annual IT risk assessment.
  • Reviews policies, procedures and goals for areas of responsibility; develops as necessary.
  • Analyzes operations to identify areas in need of reorganization, downsizing, or elimination.
  • Identifies opportunities through proformas for expansion into new product areas.
  • Attends required meetings and participates on committees as needed.
  • Participates in professional activities and maintains professional affiliations to keep abreast of current trends and changes in regulations in health care.
  • Ensures compliance with all applicable regulations.
  • Analyzes current and potential service lines and endeavors for financial stability and community need.
  • Reviews and renews insurance policies ensuring adequate coverage at reasonable rates.
  • Keeps up to date on all applicable hospital wide policies and procedures.
  • Collaborates with all individuals to achieve the vision, mission, values and goals of the organization.
  • Participates in other functions to include, but not limited to, educational activities, quality improvement projects, staff selection.
  • Performs functions other than described above due to extenuating circumstances


REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Maintains a courteous and professional manner in dealing with patients, visitors, physicians and co-workers.
  • Shows a positive attitude toward work schedules, department and hospital changes, assignments and other personnel.
  • Presents professional appearance in dress and grooming, complies with departmental dress requirements and wears hospital identification badge.
  • Conforms to hospital policy regarding use of sick time, personal days, notification of absence or tardiness.
  • Is cost effective in utilization of time, equipment and supplies.
  • Willingly cooperate with co-workers and other departments.


EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance or accounting required, Master’s degree and/or CPA preferred.
  • Prior hospital finance experience preferred.
  • Proficient in database and accounting computer application systems
  • General knowledge of hospital revenue cycle or cost-based reimbursement preferred.


REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Strong organizational, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent management and supervisory skills, ability to lead and make decisions.
  • Subject to interruptions in performing assigned work.
