Job Title: Chair, Internal Medicine
Location: Phoenix, AZ

The Chair of Internal Medicine is to lead the department and contribute with diagnosis, treatment, transformative research and exceptional education.
This is an exciting opportunity to lead an established program that will continue to have significant impact on the quality of care delivery and health outcomes of this population. Professional clinical services encompass all physicians and mid-level providers staffing a multitude of healthcare facilities throughout the Valley, including an acute care hospital, 260-bed Level 1 trauma center, three inpatient behavioral health centers, 11 health centers providing primary and specialty care, two emergency departments, an internationally recognized burn center and many unique and effective outreach programs that provide care for more than 450,000 patients annually.
The Chair of Internal Medicine will be a well-rounded and collaborative clinician with proven administrative experience and a strong passion for research, teaching, and community outreach. The candidate will be comfortable in initiating and managing relationships with faculty, along with developing and maintaining positive relationships with organizational and community leaders. This position will be employed by District Medical Group and will be staffed at Valleywise Health Medical Center in Phoenix, AZ. The Chair reports to Chief Executive Officer (CEO) at District Medical Group and to the CEO of Valleywise Health and functions as the Chair of Internal Medicine for the health system. The Department Chair, Internal Medicine serves on the Physician Leadership Team of DMG and interacts with the other clinical chairs and the administrative leadership of FQHC operations at Valleywise Health.
Responsibilities:
- The position involves clinical care in a medical director role.
- Cover a 290-bed tertiary safety net hospital that is Level 1 trauma and burn center.
- Manage Primary Care Physicians in 6 Valleywise Health FQHC’s (2 housed in 2 multispecialty buildings).
- Maintain the 9,000+ patients that are admitted to the medical services annually.
- Provide on-site IM consultations to 3 Valleywise Health Behavioral Health hospitals.
- One of two sites for Creighton Arizona Health Education Alliance IM residency with total 78 residents, GI, cardiology and HPM fellowships.
- Scholarly participation including greater than 100 publications annually, regional and national presentation.
- Have ongoing projects with an Embedded Scholar at the ASU College of Health Solutions Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institution (PCORI).
Required Training and Experience:
Preferred Training and Experience:
- Additional training such as an MBA, MHA, MPH or Clinical Informatics training with a focus on clinical environment growth and innovation.
- Experience working within an academic clinical, teaching, and research environment.
- Evidence of scholarly work as demonstrated by regional or national presentations and publications regarding Quality Improvement, Healthcare System Redesign, or similar topics.
- Experience consistent with appointment at senior rank (Associate professor) is preferred.
- Skill with financial and strategic planning at a division or departmental level.
