Building upon the pioneering research and international leadership in multidisciplinary cancer care, innovative treatments, clinical trials, and strong patient focus care, the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) is seeking a visionary leader as the next Director of the Cancer Service Line and Chief of Hematology/Oncology. This individual will drive a new era of growth and influence for UAMS as a leader in statewide cancer care.
The Cancer Service Line Director and Chief of Hematology/Oncology will lead the strategic growth of clinical, research, and educational programs, strengthening the Division’s national reputation and extramural funding. This full-time role oversees oncology operations, research, education, and patient care across UAMS and its community practices, unifying multidisciplinary teams, expanding statewide services, and recruiting outstanding clinical talent.
This position offers a unique opportunity to lead the UAMS Cancer Service Line and Division of Hematology/Oncology within a collaborative, well-resourced structure. Working with physicians, APPs, and fellows, the Director will advance cutting-edge cancer care and discovery, including cellular and gene therapies, quality outcomes and FACT accreditation efforts, therapeutic trials, inpatient and outpatient care, education and mentorship, and scholarly development.
UAMS Ranks Top 10% in U.S. for Cancer Care
The UAMS Cancer Service Line provides comprehensive medical, surgical, and radiation oncology care and is ranked in the top 10% nationally for cancer care by U.S. News & World Report (2025–2026), the only cancer program in Arkansas to receive this recognition. UAMS is rated high performing in leukemia, lymphoma, and myeloma, as well as colon, gynecologic, and lung cancer surgery.
UAMS is home to the state’s only FACT-accredited bone marrow and tissue transplant program and the internationally recognized UAMS Myeloma Center. The Proton Center of Arkansas, the state’s only proton therapy facility, opened in 2023. In 2024, UAMS achieved Magnet designation, reflecting excellence in nursing practice and leadership. The Cancer Service Line comprises more than 70 oncology faculty members across 10 College of Medicine departments, fostering a highly collaborative and multidisciplinary environment.
Reporting to senior institutional leadership, the role is responsible for strategic planning, operational oversight, and financial stewardship across a complex, multidisciplinary academic oncology enterprise.
Cancer Service Line Director & Chief of Hematology/Oncology
Required Qualifications:
- MD, DO, or MBBS degree from an accredited institution.
- Board certification in Hematology and/or Medical Oncology.
- Eligibility for medical licensure and DEA registration in the State of Arkansas.
- Academic credentials and scholarly record supporting appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences.
- Demonstrated leadership experience in academic oncology, including oversight of clinical programs and recruitment, development, and retention of faculty and Advanced Practice Providers.
- Proven ability to lead within a complex academic health system and collaborate effectively across disciplines and institutions.
- Record of commitment to high-quality, patient-centered, evidence-based care and academic excellence.
- Ability to articulate and implement a strategic vision that integrates clinical care, research, and education across UAMS, the Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute, and affiliated community practices.
- Demonstrated collaborative, engaging, transparent, and visionary leadership style.
