The Nursing Program Dean is a visionary and results-driven leader responsible for overseeing all aspects of the nursing program in accordance with regulatory and accrediting bodies. This includes curriculum implementation, faculty development, student support, accreditation readiness, and achieving strong NCLEX outcomes.
In addition to leading the current nursing program, the Dean will play a pivotal role in the approval and successful launch of the Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) program currently under regulatory review. This leader will provide strategic direction in curriculum implementation, faculty recruitment and mentorship, student success initiatives, and clinical partnerships, while ensuring continuous compliance and operational excellence.
The Nursing Program Dean supports and empowers students from diverse backgrounds, fostering a culture of equity, innovation, and accountability that prepares graduates for success in nursing practice, licensure, and lifelong learning.
Responsibilities:
Leadership and Program Management:
- Provide strategic vision and leadership to the nursing program, ensuring it meets the highest standards of excellence.
- Lead the implementation of the new ADN program, including regulatory applications, curriculum planning, and resource alignment.
- Achieve program outcomes (licensure exam and retention benchmarks) and objectives through effective planning, data analysis, implementation, and evaluation.
- Implement program policies, procedures, and guidelines in alignment with regulatory requirements and industry best practices.
- Foster a positive and collaborative environment among faculty, staff, and students, promoting open communication and teamwork.
- Collaborate with relevant stakeholders, including advisory committees and healthcare partners, to stay updated on trends in nursing and nursing education to ensure program relevance.
- Delegate tasks effectively and monitor their execution to ensure efficient program operations.
NCLEX Success:
- Ensure that students are adequately prepared for the NCLEX examination, implementing effective review programs and interventions to maximize NCLEX success rates.
- Monitor and analyze NCLEX pass rates and develop interventions to address any identified areas of improvement.
- Provide guidance and support to faculty and students in the areas of test-taking strategies, exam preparation, and remediation.
Curriculum Development and Evaluation:
- Implement the nursing program and curriculum as designed, ensuring adherence to program objectives, learning outcomes, and regulatory requirements.
- Guide the implementation of ADN curriculum, ensuring alignment with professional standards, regulatory requirements, and evolving healthcare needs.
- Conduct regular evaluations of the program’s effectiveness, seeking feedback from faculty, students, and industry partners, and making necessary adjustments to enhance program outcomes.
- Collaborate with faculty and instructional designers to ensure effective delivery of the curriculum through various instructional methods, including classroom instruction, lab simulations, and clinical experiences.
Faculty Management and Development:
- Serve as a mentor and role model for faculty members, demonstrating effective teaching practices, classroom management, and instructional leadership.
- Conduct regular faculty evaluations and provide constructive feedback to enhance teaching effectiveness and professional growth.
- Address faculty concerns, resolve conflicts, and promote a positive work environment that supports faculty well-being and job satisfaction.
- Recruit, hire, and retain qualified faculty members with expertise in nursing.
- Facilitate ongoing training and professional development for faculty to enhance their teaching abilities, stay current with advancements in nursing education, and promote student success.
Student Support and Success:
- Create a supportive and inclusive learning environment that promotes student engagement, retention, and success.
- Implement strategies to enhance student retention in the nursing program.
- Provide academic advising and support services to students, assisting them in achieving their educational and career goals.
- Monitor and analyze student performance, identify at-risk students, and develop intervention strategies to support their academic progress.
Qualifications:
- A Master’s degree in Nursing is required (Doctorate degree is preferred).
- Current and active licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) in Illinois or has the ability to receive their license in Illinois.
- Minimum of 5 years of full-time experience as nursing faculty.
- At least 3 years of leadership or management experience in nursing education within an academic setting.
- Active participation on academic committees.
- Strong knowledge of nursing education standards, accreditation requirements, and regulatory guidelines.
- Proven track record of achieving high NCLEX pass rates in a nursing program.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively manage and lead faculty and staff.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills with the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders.
- Familiarity with emerging trends, technologies, and best practices in nursing education.
