Job Title: Director of Marketing – Vascular Med Device Startup

A Medical Device startup company is growing rapidly with a portfolio of innovative vascular thrombectomy products and adding a newly created position to their marketing leadership. They successfully launched their first product this year with other indications on deck for additional treatment options. Their products are disruptive with strong clinical data for patient safety and efficacy as well as improved physician procedural control and outcomes. They are well-resourced and are rapidly becoming a leader in the vascular space with significant marketing and sales expansions planned for 2026. Responsibilities:
The newly created Director of Marketing will own upstream and downstream marketing for a portfolio of innovative devices in the vascular space. You will serve as the marketing expert on patient and customer needs and driving adoption. You’ll manage a small team of marketers already in place with plans to add more positions in the next year.
You and your team will focus on new product development including gathering VOC, defining needs, building business cases, forecasting and financial modeling. You’ll also own downstream marketing, including sales enablement strategies, competitive intelligence and sales training. The company and team are excelling and rapidly growing, so the startup work style is nimble and fast-paced. To thrive in this role, you need to be someone with a track record of defining and building processes and marketing strategy.
This is a true startup environment, so you will build process and create systems. You’re someone who is a self-starter, solutions-oriented and has strong communication and team player skills. Executive presentation skills, customer-facing skills and the ability to work effectively in a high-energy environment will be critical to success in this role. As a key member of the marketing team, you will serve as the leader on cross-functional team made up of colleagues from engineering, R&D, Medical Affairs, and Regulatory Affairs, among others.
Qualifications:
The successful candidate will have the following attributes:
- 10+ years of marketing experience in the medical device industry
- Strong upstream and downstream marketing experience
- Vascular med device experience is a plus
- Previous experience managing direct reports
- Bachelor’s degree or better in engineering is required; MBA is a plus
This position will be based in the San Francisco, CA, area; the work style is hybrid, with some days of every week in office.
