Building upon the pioneering research and international leadership in multidisciplinary cancer care, innovative treatments, clinical trials, and strong patient focus care, the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) is seeking a visionary and collaborative Academic Radiation Oncologist in the Department of Radiation Oncology and UAMS Health Radiation Oncology Center. The Radiation Oncology Center – Proton Center of Arkansas is the first in the state and only the 43rd in the nation to provide the most advanced and comprehensive cancer radiation treatment in the world. This individual will contribute to a new era of growth and influence for UAMS as a leader in statewide cancer care and research.

Mission of the Radiation Oncologist (All Academic Ranks)

The Radiation Oncologist with faculty appointment provides comprehensive patient care as well as other academically related activities within the Department of Radiation Oncology for the Radiation Oncology Center. This position supports the strategic priorities of the department and the Cancer Service Line while advancing the mission of the Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute. Candidates with a strong record of clinical research are encouraged to apply.

The Radiation Oncology position will focus on patient care and contribute to the department’s clinical education program through mentorship and supervisory skills in an academic setting. This position supports the Department of Radiation Oncology, Cancer Service Line, and Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute.

As an integral part of the UAMS Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute, the UAMS Radiation Oncology Center and the Department of Radiation Oncology provides a comprehensive and multidisciplinary team approach to treatment for cancer patients. The successful candidate will foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.

UAMS Ranks Top 10% in U.S. for Cancer Care

The UAMS Cancer Service Line provides comprehensive medical, surgical, and radiation oncology care and is ranked in the top 10% nationally for cancer care by U.S. News & World Report (2025–2026), the only cancer program in Arkansas to receive this recognition. UAMS is rated high performing in leukemia, lymphoma, and myeloma, as well as colon, gynecologic, and lung cancer surgery.

UAMS is home to the state’s only FACT-accredited bone marrow and tissue transplant program and the internationally recognized UAMS Myeloma Center. The Proton Center of Arkansas, the state’s only proton therapy facility, opened in 2023. In 2024, UAMS achieved Magnet designation, reflecting excellence in nursing practice and leadership. The Cancer Service Line comprises more than 70 oncology faculty members across 10 College of Medicine departments, fostering a highly collaborative and multidisciplinary environment.

Radiation Oncology Faculty
Required Qualifications:
  • MD, DO, or equivalent degree from an accredited institution.
  • Board Certification or eligibility by the American Board of Radiology (ABR) is required.
  • Successful completion of residency in an ACGME-accredited radiation oncology program and/or fellowship in an accredited US training program.
  • Demonstrated clinical competency in Radiation Oncology.
  • Demonstrated track record of excellence in clinical care and research.
  • Eligibility for licensure in the State of Arkansas.
  • Credentials and scholarly record supporting appointment at the rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences.
  • Ability to meet the priorities of the department and the Cancer Service Line.
  • Demonstrated collaborative, engaging, transparent, and visionary leadership style.
