The Division of Pediatric Hematology and Oncology and Blood & Marrow Transplant at Children’s Nebraska is seeking a Director of Pediatric Blood & Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT). Ideal Associate or Professor Pediatric Hematologist/Oncologist candidates will be fellowship trained with expertise in stem cell therapy with excellent leadership potential.
This is a unique opportunity to develop and lead the Pediatric Blood & Marrow Transplant Program in a collaborative culture with supportive leadership and programmatic structure including dedicated Advance Practice Providers, case managers, social workers, therapists, and pharmacists. The Medical Director will join an existing group of 10 physicians, 6 APPs, and 3 fellows working together fusing science and medicine to speed up breakthroughs in the lab and deliver state-of-the-art care to patients. Responsibilities include clinical program direction including allogeneic, autologous, CAR-T and gene therapy, collaboration for quality outcomes and FACT accreditation, expanding therapeutic trial participation, inpatient and outpatient clinical care, education of medical students, residents and fellows, mentoring faculty, and development of scholarly professional activities.
The Pediatric BMT Program currently has an active FACT-accredited pediatric autologous stem cell transplant service at Nebraska Medicine, and experience in multi-institutional stem cell transplant trials including the international ABLE trial evaluating biomarkers in pediatric chronic graft versus host disease. The Medical Director of Pediatric Blood & Marrow Transplant will be tasked with launching a FACT-accredited Stem Cell Transplant Program at Children’s Nebraska that will include both allogeneic and autologous stem cell sources.
Robust Research Program
Funds and infrastructure support for a robust research program in conjunction with the Child Health Research Institute and Pediatric Cancer Research Group (PCRG) are available and dependent on the candidate’s interest areas and expertise. The PCRG is a collaborative multidisciplinary team of scientists working to improve the outcomes of children diagnosed with cancer by combining the scientific framework of the UNMC Fred & Pamela Buffet Cancer Center with the resources and clinical expertise of Children’s Nebraska and UNMC. These funds can be used for the candidate’s clinical or translational research projects or devoted to expanding infrastructure to allow for the opening and executing of available multi-institutional pediatric stem cell transplant trials.

The Medical Director/ Candidate Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- MD, DO, or MBBS degree required.
- Board certification in Pediatric Hematology / Oncology.
- Training and experience in blood and marrow transplantation and cellular therapy.
- Demonstrated excellence in patient care.
- Licensed or ability to acquire medical license and DEA in State of Nebraska.
- Academic credentials which merit appointment as Associate Professor or Professor at the University of Nebraska Medical Center.
- Can articulate a vision that will promote and integrate research, clinical care, and education across Children’s Nebraska, UNMC/Nebraska Medicine, and surrounding the community.
