Student Success Advisor
The Student Success Advisor plays a pivotal role in advancing our mission of supporting every student toward academic achievement, personal growth, and career readiness. This position is designed to foster a supportive, structured, and engaging environment where students are empowered to overcome challenges, stay on track, and reach their full potential.
As a trusted guide and advocate, the Student Success Advisor provides proactive support in the areas of academic progress, retention, and holistic student development. By building positive relationships and offering timely interventions, this role ensures that each student receives individualized guidance to navigate academic expectations, address personal and social challenges, and remain engaged through to program completion.
Reporting
- This position will report and work directly under the supervision of the Director of Operations
Student Retention & Advising
- Provide individualized academic, personal, and social guidance to students through one-on-one and group advising.
- Monitor attendance, early alerts, and academic progress; intervene promptly to connect students with faculty, staff, or external resources.
- Implement proactive retention strategies in collaboration with other departments.
- Conduct regular follow-ups with students to ensure progress, persistence, and program completion.
- Advise students on persistence alternatives. When a withdrawal/LOA is chosen, complete advising handoff to the Student Academic Services Administrator for official processing.
Data & Reporting
- Utilize data analytics to track student performance, identify trends, and drive evidence-based decisions.
- Maintain accurate student records, academic progress files, and discipline history in compliance with institutional standards.
- Compile and prepare reports for internal stakeholders and external regulators.
Communication & Outreach
- Design and develop informational and promotional materials (e.g., newsletters, fact sheets) to publicize student success services.
- Partner with faculty and leadership to provide student services updates and coordinate success initiatives.
- Serve as liaison with external contacts (social service agencies, community resource centers, etc.) to connect students with needed resources.
Engagement & Student Life
- Create opportunities for student engagement through workshops, events, and social activities that enhance community and campus culture.
- Actively participate in admissions events, exams, and student-facing activities to build relationships and presence on campus.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, Sociology, Education, or a related field required; Master’s degree preferred.
- Minimum of three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in student services, advising, or student success programs.
Knowledge/Areas of Expertise
- Experience supporting students from diverse, multicultural, and underserved backgrounds.
- Knowledge of student success strategies, college services, and community resources.
- Familiarity with data tracking, reporting, and research methods.
- Understanding of relevant laws, regulations, and compliance standards in higher education.
Abilities/Skills
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to handle sensitive situations with tact and professionalism.
- Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
- Ability to design and improve policies, procedures, and student support systems.
- Proficient in maintaining accurate records and ensuring confidentiality.
- Ability to work collaboratively across departments and build strong student relationships.
- Skilled in prioritizing tasks, meeting deadlines, and exercising sound judgment in dynamic situations.
