A unique opportunity to transform graduate medical education in Texas as the Assistant Dean for Graduate Medical Education (GME) for Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center El Paso (TTUHSC El Paso) Foster School of Medicine (FSOM), located near the Rocky Mountains in one of the safest, fastest growing cities in the United States.

The Assistant Dean for Graduate Medical Education will support senior leadership in expanding and advancing the Graduate Medical Education program in alignment with the medical school’s mission, strategic priorities, and goal of becoming a world-class center of learning and medical education. As a key part of the Foster School of Medicine Leadership team, the Assistant Dean will play a critical role in positioning TTUHSC El Paso to meet the workforce needs of the state and region, positively contributing to the strength, health, and prosperity of the communities it serves. This individual will foster, support, and advance an academic environment that promotes excellence in all aspects of GME across multiple training sites within the Foster School of Medicine.

Professional Qualifications
  • M.D. or D.O. degree
  • Texas medical license, or eligibility for medical licensure in the State of Texas
  • Board certification by an American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) or AOA member board
  • Qualified for faculty appointment in a clinical department of the Foster School of Medicine at the rank of Assistant Professor or higher
  • Experience in curriculum development, assessment, and learner evaluation in residency or fellowship programs
  • A minimum of five (5) years of experience in graduate medical education administration, such as residency or fellowship program director, assistant or associate dean for GME, departmental vice-chair for education, or comparable leadership role at an ACGME-accredited program(s)
  • Experience as a practicing clinician in an academic medical center
Preferred Qualifications
  • Demonstrated success in GME administration, including accreditation compliance, program oversight, or institutional GME initiatives
  • Prior service in an institutional GME leadership role such as Designated Institutional Official (DIO), Associate/Assistant DIO, or institutional GME committee (GMEC) membership
  • Experience with ACGME accreditation, including institutional and/or program-level reviews, citations, and corrective action plans
  • Experience with strategic planning, data-driven decision making, and outcomes assessment in GME
  • Familiarity with GME financing, budgeting, and Medicare GME funding
  • Strong record of faculty development, mentoring, and trainee advocacy
  • Scholarly contributions in medical education (publications, presentations, or funded educational projects)
  • Established or emerging regional or national reputation for the rank of Associate Professor or higher
