Building upon the pioneering research, innovation, and international leadership in multidisciplinary cancer care, advanced cellular immunotherapy treatments, clinical trials, academic training, and operational excellence, the UAMS Health Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute (WPRCI) and the Department of Internal Medicine are jointly recruiting an accomplished and visionary physician leader to serve as Section Chief of Hematology and Bone Marrow Transplantation (BMT) in the Division of Hematology and Oncology. This individual will drive a new era of growth and influence for UAMS as a leader in statewide treatment of blood cancers, bone marrow failure syndromes, and genetic blood disorders.
The Chief of Hematology and BMT will lead the strategic growth of clinical, research, and educational programs, strengthening both the Division and the BMT unit’s national reputation and extramural funding. This full-time role oversees Hematology/Stem Cell Transplantation and Cellular Therapy operations, drive clinical trials, cellular therapy advancements, and laboratory investigations research, education, and patient care across UAMS and its community practices, unifying multidisciplinary teams, expanding statewide services, and recruiting outstanding clinical talent.
This position offers a unique opportunity to lead the section within a collaborative, well-resourced structure. Working with physicians, APPs, and fellows, the Director will advance cutting-edge cancer care and discovery, including cellular and gene therapies, quality outcomes and FACT accreditation efforts, therapeutic trials, inpatient and outpatient care, education and mentorship, and scholarly development.

The UAMS Medical Oncology Service Line is ranked among the top 10% of cancer programs nationally by U.S. News & World Report (2025–2026) and is the only cancer program in Arkansas to receive this distinction.
As Arkansas’ only academic health sciences university, UAMS is home to internationally recognized physician-scientists conducting leading-edge cancer research and clinical trials. Additional institutional strengths include:
- Arkansas’ only FACT-accredited bone marrow and tissue transplant program.
- The internationally recognized UAMS Myeloma Center.
- The Proton Center of Arkansas, the state’s only proton therapy facility.

The BMT Service brings together specialists from more than ten College of Medicine departments, creating one of the region’s most comprehensive multidisciplinary blood cancer programs. Reporting to senior institutional leadership, the role is responsible for strategic planning, operational oversight, and financial stewardship across a complex, multidisciplinary academic hematology/oncology enterprise.
Section Chief of Hematology and BMT
Required Qualifications:
- MD, DO, or MBBS degree from an accredited institution.
- Board certification in Hematology and/or Medical Oncology.
- Eligibility for medical licensure and DEA registration in the State of Arkansas.
- Academic credentials and scholarly record supporting appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences.
- Demonstrated leadership experience in academic oncology, including oversight of clinical programs and recruitment, development, and retention of faculty and Advanced Practice Providers.
- Proven ability to lead within a complex academic health system and collaborate effectively across disciplines and institutions.
- Record of commitment to high-quality, patient-centered, evidence-based care and academic excellence.
- Ability to articulate and implement a strategic vision that integrates clinical care, research, and education across UAMS, the Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute, and affiliated community practices.
- Demonstrated collaborative, engaging, transparent, and visionary leadership style.
