The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS), a premier academic health system in Arkansas and a leader in patient care, education, and research, invites applications for an accomplished physician-scientist to serve as Section Chief of Hematology and Bone Marrow Transplantation (BMT) within the Department of Internal Medicine and UAMS Health Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute (WPRCI). UAMS Health operates one of the top peripheral blood stem cell transplantation clinics in the nation.

The Section Chief of Hematology and Blood and Marrow Transplantation will provide strategic, academic, and clinical leadership for all BMT-related initiatives. Collaborating closely with UAMS Health leadership, the Chief will guide a growing team of transplant physicians and allied professionals in a section poised for substantial expansion in both clinical and research domains. The successful candidate will hold a faculty appointment with the UAMS College of Medicine and will have opportunities to collaborate across departments and campuses within the broader UAMS Health system.

The UAMS Medical Oncology Service Line is ranked among the top 10% of cancer programs nationally by U.S. News & World Report (2025–2026) and is the only cancer program in Arkansas to receive this distinction.
As Arkansas’ only academic health sciences university, UAMS is home to internationally recognized physician-scientists conducting leading-edge cancer research and clinical trials. Additional institutional strengths include:

The BMT Service brings together specialists from more than ten College of Medicine departments, creating one of the region’s most comprehensive multidisciplinary programs.
Section Chief of Hematology and BMT
Qualifications:
- MD, DO, or MBBS from an accredited institution.
- Board certification in Hematology, Medical Oncology, or Pediatric Hematology/Oncology.
- Completed core residency and specialized fellowship in Hematology, Oncology, or Pediatric Hematology/Oncology.
- Eligibility for an unrestricted Arkansas medical license and appropriate national council registrations.
- Academic credentials supporting appointments as Associate Professor or Professor.
- Minimum of 7 to 10 years of post-training practice specializing in hematopoietic cell transplantation (HCT) and cellular therapies.
- Track record of managing clinical trials, securing research grants, and collaborating with industry sponsors or cooperative research networks.
- Familiarity with Foundation for the Accreditation of Cellular Therapy (FACT) standards or registry compliance (e.g., CIBMTR).
- Active background in clinical, basic science, or translational research regarding immunotherapy and blood cancers.
- History of peer-reviewed high-impact publications, successful grant acquisitions, and experience guiding residents or fellows.
