An internationally recognized Ivy League School of Medicine seeks an accomplished academic physician leader to serve as Chief of the Division of Obstetrics. This highly visible leadership position offers a unique opportunity to shape the future of obstetric care, education, research, and faculty development within one of the nation’s premier academic health systems.
The successful candidate will join a thriving and growing academic clinical enterprise and be appointed at the rank of Associate Professor, Professor, or higher, commensurate with qualifications and experience, within the Academic Clinician Track.
The Opportunity
The Chief of Obstetrics will provide strategic, clinical, educational, and scholarly leadership for a distinguished division dedicated to delivering exceptional patient-centered care while advancing innovation in women’s health. The Division Chief will oversee faculty, clinical operations, quality initiatives, educational programs, and academic growth while fostering a collaborative and inclusive culture. This leader will play a critical role in advancing the institution’s mission across clinical excellence, research, education, and community impact.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide vision and leadership for the Division of Obstetrics across all clinical, educational, and academic missions.
- Lead and support a team of obstetric physicians, advanced practice providers, certified nurse midwives, trainees, and staff.
- Advance high-quality, evidence-based obstetric care with a commitment to patient safety, quality outcomes, and health equity.
- Foster faculty development, mentorship, recruitment, and retention.
- Partner with departmental and institutional leadership to drive strategic initiatives and operational excellence.
- Support and expand scholarly activity, clinical research, and multidisciplinary collaboration.
- Educate and mentor medical students, residents, fellows, and junior faculty.
- Promote an inclusive environment that values diversity, equity, and belonging.
Minimum Qualifications Candidates should possess
- MD, DO, or equivalent medical degree.
- Board Certification in Obstetrics and Gynecology.
- Eligibility for medical licensure in the state of appointment.
- Academic accomplishments warranting appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor.
- Demonstrated excellence in obstetric clinical care and medical education.
- Outstanding surgical and operative vaginal delivery expertise.
- A track record of leadership within an academic medical center, healthcare system, or large clinical practice.
- Experience leading multidisciplinary clinical teams and managing complex clinical operations.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and collaborative leadership skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous division, section, service line, program, or departmental leadership experience.
- Experience overseeing and collaborating with Certified Nurse Midwives.
- Demonstrated success in scholarly activity, clinical research, quality improvement, or clinical innovation.
- Evidence of mentorship and faculty development accomplishments.
- A commitment to advancing diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging through leadership, teaching, service, scholarship, or mentorship.
