An established commercial concrete contractor is seeking a Chief Structural Concrete Estimator to lead estimating and preconstruction efforts from its Memphis operation. This individual will own the estimating process, provide leadership to the estimating team, and partner closely with operations to pursue and deliver profitable structural concrete work.

Responsibilities

  • Lead estimating and preconstruction efforts for structural concrete projects.
  • Review drawings, specifications, schedules, addenda, and other bid documents to develop complete estimates.
  • Perform and oversee detailed quantity takeoffs for concrete, reinforcing steel, formwork, embeds, excavation, and related scopes.
  • Develop labor, material, equipment, subcontractor, and general-condition costs.
  • Evaluate construction approach, sequencing, access, logistics, schedule, and other conditions that may affect cost.
  • Solicit and evaluate supplier and subcontractor pricing.
  • Identify scope risks, exclusions, clarifications, alternates, and value-engineering opportunities.
  • Lead estimate reviews and provide recommendations on pricing strategy, contingencies, and pursuit approach.
  • Participate in pre-bid meetings, site visits, scope reviews, and client discussions as needed.
  • Maintain historical cost and production data to improve estimating accuracy.
  • Partner with project management and field leadership during preconstruction and project turnover.
  • Communicate estimating assumptions, production expectations, scope boundaries, and project-specific risks to operations.
  • Lead, develop, and mentor estimators and other preconstruction team members.
  • Establish and maintain consistent estimating procedures and standards.

Qualifications

  • Significant commercial construction estimating experience with a strong concentration in structural concrete.
  • Experience estimating self-perform concrete work.
  • Strong knowledge of foundations, footings, walls, columns, slabs, elevated concrete, reinforcing systems, and formwork.
  • Ability to translate construction means and methods and anticipated field production into accurate labor and equipment costs.
  • Demonstrated experience developing detailed estimates from plans and specifications.
  • Strong understanding of construction drawings, specifications, contracts, schedules, and bid documents.
  • Experience evaluating project risk and making sound decisions when information is incomplete or evolving.
  • Ability to lead estimate reviews and clearly communicate pricing decisions to senior leadership and operations.
  • Proficiency with estimating and takeoff software.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related discipline preferred; equivalent industry experience will be considered.
