Sam Houston State University College of Osteopathic Medicine offers a distinctive opportunity for a family medicine or internal medicine physician to combine patient care, medical education, and service while helping prepare the next generation of physicians for Texas.
SHSU-COM is seeking an Assistant/Associate Professor of Clinical Primary Care Faculty to practice within SHSU Physicians, the college’s multispecialty clinical practice in Conroe, Texas. The position offers physicians the opportunity to maintain an active clinical practice while teaching and mentoring medical students in an academic environment where education is closely integrated with patient care.
The ideal candidate is an experienced, collaborative family medicine or internal medicine physician who values high-quality, patient-centered care, and enjoys working with learners. The physician will care for patients with a broad range of healthcare needs while contributing to the clinical education of SHSU-COM student doctors. Reporting to the Associate Dean, this Clinical Faculty position is eligible for appointment as an assistant or associate professor, non-tenure track, in the Department of Primary Care and Clinical Medicine. Academic rank and salary will be commensurate with experience and training.

Candidate Qualifications
Required Professional Qualifications/Experience
- Osteopathic (DO) degree preferred. Physicians holding an MD degree will also be considered where the applicant has demonstrated a focus on holistic care consistent with the osteopathic philosophy.
- Current Texas State License or the ability to obtain and maintain a Texas State Medical license.
- Current and ongoing board certification in family or internal medicine.
- Completion of a 3-year family medicine or internal medicine residency.
- Training in medical areas such as general outpatient medicine, pediatrics (preferred), surgery, neurology, psychiatry, outpatient gynecology, and community medicine.
Personal Characteristics and Preferred Qualifications
- Osteopathic manipulation skills and capacity to communicate effectively is required.
- Strong interpersonal and excellent quantitative skills.
- Background in medical education preferred, including experience with pre-clinical and clinical teaching.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a caring, compassionate, and attentive nature.
- Sensitivity to local community health needs and should enjoy playing a visible role in the community in support of the SHSU-COM mission.
