The UAMS Health Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute (WPRCI) and the Department of Internal Medicine are seeking physician-scientist to join the nationally ranked Cancer Service Line at the only cancer program in Arkansas to be nationally ranked among the top 10%. The Gastrointestinal Oncologist will work alongside surgical oncologists, radiation oncologists, gastroenterologists, and staff support in a multidisciplinary team approach to advance GI Cancer Care not only in the community but across the State of Arkansas and beyond. The GI Faculty Physician will help develop outreach programs, participate in clinical trials, and serve the community.

The GI Faculty will contribute to the continued growth of the highly specialized Cancer Service across its clinical, research, educational, and outreach missions. This full-time faculty position will support GI services throughout UAMS Health and affiliated community practices while fostering collaboration among multidisciplinary teams, expanding statewide access to care and clinical trials, recruiting outstanding faculty, and enhancing the program’s national reputation.

The UAMS Medical Oncology Service Line is ranked among the top 10% of cancer programs nationally by U.S. News & World Report (2025–2026) and is the only cancer program in Arkansas to receive this distinction.
As Arkansas’ only academic health sciences university, UAMS is home to internationally recognized physician-scientists conducting leading-edge breast cancer research and clinical trials. Additional institutional strengths include:
- Arkansas’ only FACT-accredited bone marrow and tissue transplant program.

The Cancer Service Line brings together specialists from more than ten College of Medicine departments, creating one of the region’s most comprehensive multidisciplinary cancer programs.
Mission of the GI Oncologist
The GI Oncologist will help cultivate a culture of collaboration, accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement while advancing the academic mission of UAMS through excellence in patient care, research, and education. Working alongside physicians, advanced practice providers, trainees, researchers, and administrative leaders, the GI Oncologist will support specialized and cutting-edge treatment options, expand clinical research and therapeutic trials, strengthen educational programs, and join an environment of academic excellence and innovation. This position reports jointly to both the Chief of the Cancer Service Line and the Chair of Internal Medicine and includes a faculty appointment within the UAMS College of Medicine at a rank commensurate with experience.Candidate Qualifications
- MD, DO, or MBBS from an accredited institution.
- Board certification in Medical Oncology or Hematology/Oncology.
- Eligible for Arkansas medical licensure and DEA registration.
- Willingness to participate in clinical research and scholarly achievement.
- Demonstrated a desire for an academic oncology program, including educational development, and mentorship.
- Demonstrated commitment to patient-centered, evidence-based care and quality improvement.
- Ability to develop and execute a strategic vision integrating clinical care, research, education, and program growth.
- Collaborative, transparent, and inspirational style with outstanding interpersonal and communication skills.
