Field Medical Director – Ophthalmology

August 2026

Watch a short video overview of this opportunity

Company

This organization is a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company recognized as one of the most closely watched innovators in immune-mediated neuroinflammatory disease. Rather than chase me-too therapies, it has staked its reputation on intercepting a single upstream inflammatory trigger before disease cascades even begin, a scientific bet few competitors are placing.

“The rare biotech where the science still gets people out of bed early.” (industry trade press)

The Role They Will Play

This position is the company’s boots-on-the-ground scientific ambassador in ophthalmology, equal parts educator, connector, and trusted expert to the retina community. Day to day, that means translating dense trial data into real conversations with thought leaders, spotting research and advisory opportunities before others do, and supporting clinical operations from site identification through patient recruitment. Unlike a typical field medical seat, this one carries real autonomy from day one: minimal hand-holding, high expectations. For the right person, it’s a credible step toward regional or director-level leadership as the therapeutic franchise matures.

Background Profile

Because of the pace of this program and its importance to the business, this is not a seat for someone still building their field legs; it calls for a credentialed, independent operator who can contribute immediately.

  • Expertise in ophthalmology, with a strong preference for retina/ocular disease experience and established thought-leader relationships.
  • 4+ years’ Experience in field-based biopharmaceutical medical affairs (6+ years for consideration at the director level).
  • Exposure to congress management, investigator-initiated research, and advisory board collaboration.
  • Working Knowledge of the compliance and regulatory landscape governing HCP engagement.
  • Doctoral-level scientific, healthcare, or medical degree (PharmD, PhD, MD, or DO), or equivalent experience.
