Health Systems Liaison Director

▶︎ Watch a short video overview of this opportunity

1. Company

Our client is a fast-growing, commercial-stage biopharmaceutical company that has quickly become the established leader in a serious, progressive metabolic liver disease. Its once-daily, oral, liver-directed therapy is a first-in-class treatment, and the company is building one of the deepest pipelines in the field, spanning oral, RNA-based, and combination approaches. The culture prizes scientific excellence, operational rigor, and collaboration, and every full-time employee receives equity, reinforcing a genuine ownership mindset.

2. The Role They Will Play

As a Health Systems Liaison Director, you will be the scientific bridge between a breakthrough hepatology franchise and the decision-makers who shape access to it. You will build peer-level relationships with health plans, PBMs, integrated delivery networks, large GI practices, and specialty pharmacies, delivering balanced, credible exchange on clinical data, real-world evidence, and HEOR. Unlike a traditional MSL role, this position sits at the intersection of medical affairs and market access, partnering with account directors on strategic account plans rather than prescriber-by-prescriber engagement. With five regional seats being added during a commercial expansion, the role offers visibility with health systems leadership and room to grow into broader medical and scientific leadership.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop ongoing professional relationships with key decision-makers in organized health systems to ensure access to medical and scientific information on the company’s products, development programs, and related disease areas.
  • Partner with Market Access regional and key account director teams to develop strategic account plans, and execute medical activities in alignment with those plans.
  • Communicate and coordinate with regional MSLs on medical and scientific support needs in affiliated regional health systems — IDNs, GI practices, and regional payers.
  • Serve as a strategic resource to Health Systems leadership and Market Access teams, and as a technical resource on their scientific questions.
  • Support headquarters-led HEOR activities within regional accounts of responsibility.
  • Attend and support scientific and medical meetings, and prepare planned post-meeting deliverables.

Open Territories (5 Openings)

  • New England (MA/VT/ME/NH)
  • Mid-Atlantic (PA/NJ/VA/MD/DC)
  • Great Lakes (IL/WI/MI, plus IA or MO — to be confirmed)
  • Texas (Dallas/Houston/San Antonio)
  • Southwest (CO/UT/AZ/NV)

3. Background Profile

The ideal candidate is a credentialed scientist who already speaks the language of payers and IDNs, equally at home with clinical evidence and formulary strategy.

  • Expertise in building peer-to-peer scientific relationships with payer and IDN decision-makers.
  • 5+ years’ experience in the IDN and payer space, gained on the customer side or in an industry role working with these customers.
  • Exposure to pharmacoeconomics, HEOR, disease management, and real-world evidence generation.
  • Working knowledge of formulary management, quality management, and pathway development.
  • Working knowledge of FDA, OIG, HIPAA, and other ethical guidelines and regulations relevant to the pharmaceutical industry.
  • Clinical or scientific degree required (e.g., MD, PharmD, PhD, MS, MPH).
  • Preferred: formal training in health economics or outcomes research, field-based medical experience, and liver and/or GI experience, including non-viral liver disease.

Compensation & Logistics

  • Comprehensive benefits, including flexible paid time off, medical, dental, vision, life/disability insurance, and 401(k) with employer match.
  • Remote, field-based position reporting to a regional Health Systems Senior Director.
  • Travel up to 50%, including support of scientific meetings over weekends.
