Building upon its national leadership in multidisciplinary neuro-oncology and brain tumor treatment, innovative research, clinical trials, and education, the UAMS Health Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute (WPRCI), the Jackson T. Stephens Spine & Neurosciences Institute, and the departments of Neurology and Neurosurgery are jointly recruiting an accomplished physician leader to serve as the inaugural Medical Director of Neuro-Oncology.
Advancing brain and spinal cord tumors and cancer-related neurological disorders is one of UAMS Health’s highest strategic priorities, and this recruitment reflects the institution’s commitment to providing Arkansans with comprehensive, compassionate, and innovative treatment of central nervous system tumors of the brain and spinal cord.
The Medical Director will provide visionary leadership for the continued growth of the highly specialized Neuro-Oncology Service across its clinical, research, educational, and outreach missions. This full-time faculty leadership position will oversee neuro-oncology services throughout UAMS Health and affiliated community practices while fostering collaboration among multidisciplinary teams, expanding statewide access to care and clinical trials, recruiting outstanding faculty, and enhancing the program’s national reputation.
Working alongside physicians, advanced practice providers, trainees, researchers, and administrative leaders, the Medical Director will advance specialized and cutting-edge treatment options, expand clinical research and therapeutic trials, strengthen educational programs, and cultivate an environment of academic excellence and innovation.
The UAMS Brain and Spine Cancer Program offers specialized neuro-oncology and neurosurgical care delivered by a multidisciplinary team including neuro-oncologists, neurosurgeons, and radiation oncologists. This highly visible leadership position reports jointly to both the Chair of Neurology and the Chair of Neurosurgery and includes a faculty appointment within the UAMS College of Medicine at a rank commensurate with experience.

Mission of the Medical Director of Neuro-Oncology
The Medical Director will provide the overall strategic leadership and academic vision for growth and development of a multidisciplinary Neuro-Oncology program while advancing excellence in patient care, education, research, and community engagement. The successful candidate will cultivate a culture of collaboration, accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement while advancing the academic mission of UAMS through excellence in patient care, research, and education.Candidate Qualifications
- MD, DO, or MBBS from an accredited institution.
- Board certification in Neurology (e.g., American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology) or Medical Oncology.
- Formal post-residency fellowship training specifically in Neuro-Oncology.
- Eligibility for an Arkansas medical license and appropriate national council registrations.
- Academic credentials supporting appointments as Associate Professor or Professor.
- Track record of managing clinical trials, securing research grants, and collaborating with industry sponsors or cooperative research networks.
- Demonstrated history of providing advanced clinical care for adult or pediatric brain tumor patients across inpatient and outpatient settings.
- Experience leading multidisciplinary clinical teams, mentoring junior faculty or staff, and guiding strategic program development.
- Demonstrated commitment to patient-centered, evidence-based care and quality improvement.
- Ability to develop and execute a strategic vision integrating clinical care, research, education, and statewide program growth.
- Collaborative, transparent, and inspirational leadership style with outstanding interpersonal and communication skills.
