Texas Business Group, Partners Announce Best Companies to Work for in Texas
2008 List Highlights Best Small, Medium and Large Companies in State
The awards were announced at an Austin luncheon hosted by the Texas Association of Business (TAB), publishers of Texas Monthly magazine, and the Society for Human Resource Management – Texas State Council (SHRM-TSC). Over 600 members of the business community attended the event to honor competition winners.
“The feedback for this program from businesses of all sizes across the state gets stronger each year, because companies are becoming more motivated to be recognized as one of the best,” said TAB President Bill Hammond. “In the years ahead, this program will be a tool for employers to pinpoint the ways they can improve every aspect of their business, from employee relations to customer service.”
Managed by Best Companies Group, the program is a multi-year initiative to motivate companies in the state to focus, measure, and move their workplace environments toward excellence.
Numerous studies show a strong correlation between profitability and creating a good place to work.
The goal of “Best Companies to Work for in Texas” is to raise the bar among the state’s employers and create excellence and employee satisfaction in the workplace that will attract talented people for years to come. This initiative is integral for Texas to compete in both national and global arenas.
The “Best Companies to Work for in Texas” initiative is similar to the famous Fortune magazine list. In addition to the positive effect the award has on employee morale, employee relations and improved recruitment, the driving force for companies to participate in this program is the remarkable effect that workplace improvements can have on their bottom line.
The selection process was based on an assessment of the company’s employee policies and procedures and the results of an internal employee survey. The Assessment Findings Report that all participating companies receive enables them to develop plans and implement steps necessary to create a great workplace and continue to improve the performance of their business.
A new feature of the “Best Companies to Work for in Texas” in 2008 is the addition of business categories, which ranks each company against companies of similar sizes. Small businesses are those with 25-74 employees; medium-sized businesses have 75-249 employees; large businesses employ 250 and more. Winners are featured in the February edition of Texas Monthly and can also be viewed on their website at http://www.texasmonthly.com/promotions/bestcompanies/.
